Hi
Finally today my husband received his CR decision from the Canadian consulate in New York. Almost 18 months as they mentioned on the letters. He applied on June 2023, received the AOR on July 11th 2023. And received the decision on December 23th 2024.

Congrats to your husband! If you don’t mind me asking; was his case somewhat complex due to the criminality?

We were advised this info this week from the Washington Embassy, where my husband’s CR application sits (so this might not apply to the NY Consulate workload):

“Current processing time for criminal rehabilitation (CR) applications is in excess of 24 months. As these are complex cases, there are no guaranteed processing times. There are many variables affecting processing times of applications from persons who are inadmissible to Canada including the ability to provide all the relevant documentation and information in a timely manner. “. So…
You will see in various forums that processing times can vary based on the case circumstances. It seems that processing times are now extended for the most complex cases, at least in Washington. At this point, we just have to wait… and remain hopeful.

Update: We received an update this week that my husband’s CR application was approved by the Washington office. It was almost precisely 22 months since applying, first through NYC as required for US cases for CR. His case was more complex than average, so I can understand why it took so long. Fortunately, our hopeful outlook paid off. Now we can soon visit one of my dearest friends in Vancouver. Best of luck to all!

I went through the process last year

Applied: 16th Feb 2022 - Paper to London office

Got my visa approved 13th May 2022, applied for ETA didn't go through. essentially the approved the visa application without lucking at the rehab form, found this out 3rd June 2022, provided chararcter references, letter etc 5th June 2022, approved 12th June 2022

Were you also applying for a PR? I submitted ours Feb too! and this is our last portion of our PR application. My partner has a very small/minior charge (stepped down)

Hi All,

Please advise. We have submitted CR together with PR application. We have already received AOR for PR in November 2024, and no information about CR application. How we can know the status of CR application? Is it any way to submit GCMS or other notes for CR without application number?

In the same boat, but we applied for CR later. There is no way of knowing. What office did you apply to? Mine is London, UK

Hi,
Can anyone explain if there is a difference in processing times for CR applications submitted inside and outside Canada?

I applied to CR in México in January 2023 and so far I have not received any response. It's been 26 months and I'm still waiting... I only received a file number and UCI shortly after sending my package.

I gathered all the documentation and submitted the application on my own, and my question is, do I need to submit more documents to help with the process, and if so, how do I do it?

Yesterday my husband’s Background in GCKey changed my from Not applicable to We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.

Today he received the Pre-arrival letter in GCKey and in the Tracker Eligibility and Background changed to Completed.

Then a couple hours later he received a letter in his email, AOR for Criminal Rehabilitation.

“This letter is to confirm that we have received your application for Rehabilitation including the required documents and fees. As such, your file was created in our case management system on 05/07/2025.
Your application is in queue for review. Should any additional information be required, our office will contact you.”

I thought the CR would have been done simultaneously with the PR since they were both submitted at the same time but it looks like the PR was put through all the steps and then the CR was submitted for review.
