Hi
Finally today my husband received his CR decision from the Canadian consulate in New York. Almost 18 months as they mentioned on the letters. He applied on June 2023, received the AOR on July 11th 2023. And received the decision on December 23th 2024.

Congrats to your husband! If you don’t mind me asking; was his case somewhat complex due to the criminality?

We were advised this info this week from the Washington Embassy, where my husband’s CR application sits (so this might not apply to the NY Consulate workload):

“Current processing time for criminal rehabilitation (CR) applications is in excess of 24 months. As these are complex cases, there are no guaranteed processing times. There are many variables affecting processing times of applications from persons who are inadmissible to Canada including the ability to provide all the relevant documentation and information in a timely manner. “. So…
You will see in various forums that processing times can vary based on the case circumstances. It seems that processing times are now extended for the most complex cases, at least in Washington. At this point, we just have to wait… and remain hopeful.

Update: We received an update this week that my husband’s CR application was approved by the Washington office. It was almost precisely 22 months since applying, first through NYC as required for US cases for CR. His case was more complex than average, so I can understand why it took so long. Fortunately, our hopeful outlook paid off. Now we can soon visit one of my dearest friends in Vancouver. Best of luck to all!
