do you think that percentage is very high? i know atleast 10-12 families that either converted from Work permit to PR or came on a PR....and all but 1 are all here and settled. The one that left was for some personal/family reasons and has an active PR and there is a strong chance he moves back. So atleast i dont know anyone in my immediate circle that didnt settle. Am sure there are people but how big is that number in terms of percentage ....(btw in my calculation i already took just 10% trying to apply for PGP which i think is way on the lower side)

Think you are misunderstanding. PGP is only parent sponsorship. Yes most people settle in Canada when they get their PR at least until they become citizens. The ability to sponsor parents is a very different process that sponsoring a spouse and children under 22. Much harder to sponsor parents and there are no guarantees that you can sponsor parents. Sponsoring a spouse and children is almost always approved.

just out of curiosity guys, are there tentative/indicative numbers for people who are "prospective applicants" to get their parents/grandparents here? for e.g. in previous draws how many applications came in (irrespective of qualified in lottery)? is there a published number from CIC?

If i go by simple mathematics, Canada is taking around 300,000 people every year....which with average family size of 2 is almost 150,000 families. Even if only 10% are interested/keen getting their number ( i suspect the percentage is way higher for south asian countries from a cultural standpoint of old parents staying with their kids)...15000 parents = ~30,000 applicants (for majority, i do know some cases would be just 1 parent or grandparent). And even if i count last 10 years....are we talking of around 300,000 prospective/interested parties? Am i correct in my calculation or way off?

Am "not" saying or debating Canadian immigration policies or the number should increase or decrease, that is not the point at all...i respect whatever is the official number they open applications for. But am trying to understand how many applications a person is competing with for a lottery....or in other words probability of making it through.

I have applied for 5 years now and did not get picked. First one was in 2016 and my application was returned as they had received enough applications and mine did not reach in time. 2017 onwards it was all online and completely random. That being said I think the chances of getting picked might be better this year considering a lot of people applied for CERB and a lot of them lost job (not that its a good thing) which might affect their chances to apply. Also You will hear a lot of chatter about how burdened the health care system is and how bringing in a few thousand parents every year will over burden the system but you will not hear anyone talk about billions that the previous Governments have wasted in summits and e-health scandal and many more that did not become public. For that kind of money you could have made so many more state of the art hospitals and LTC facilities to accommodate the ageing population but of course no one would talk about it. Instead the only thing you would hear is how terrible this program is and the only excuse will be health care and sadly the health care does not seem to be on any Governments priority list either. We aren’t talking about a few thousands seniors entering via the PGP program. Yoù also can’t compare money wasted on other programs to money that may be used to treat PGP applicants. no nobody is happy about money wasted by the government on things like health in Ontario. Our govern,ents have taken on way too much debt. Due to covid some provinces have huge backlogs for surgeries and procedures compared to normal waitlists. Ontario has around 250k surgeries on their waitlist and it will take years to catch up. The quota for PGP for 2021 was announced to be 30k applications in addition to 10k earlier this year. That could mean an additional 100k seniors which does have an impact on the healthcare system. Not only money but resources. The majority of Canadians have no idea that PGP exists and would think that many without family doctors, waiting years for a spot in a nursing home, waiting 6-12 months for a specialist appointment, etc. would be very shocked that a seniorbcould immigrate without having ever paid taxes and may be able to secure a GP before them. Our changing demographics also needs to be considered. As Canada struggles to deal with the current population of seniors we seem to be increasing the number of PGP applicants. If we were even close to meeting the demands of our current seniors the situation would be very different but we are not even close to meeting their demands. Hopefully there may be a discussion with the provinces about how many seniors that they could absorb realistically. For example there will be a decent percentage of the PGP applicants who will move to Brampton. Brampton’s hospital is always at capacity and the city is in need of a new hospital and more LTC beds because they have an extremely low number of beds based on population. That will take 5-10 years if the government finally approve a new hospital but the PGP program is adding more pressure on a system that is already overwhelmed.

LICO for 2020 was dramatically reduced and you can count EI towards LICO in 2020 (normally you can’t) so I think many will still qualify

Well again PGP is not a priority for any government nor is the healthcare system. Last hospital built in Brampton was 14 years ago... Where do the priorities lie for the governments? You say it take 6-12 months for seeing specialist / getting elective surgeries I agree but what has the Government done to reduce it? Lets take out PGP out for a moment and lets talk what the previous governments have done to make things better. Harper government blew $1B for a G7 summit back in 2010 you know how many LTC facilities could have been built from that money back in 2010? Imagine if that money was distributed to different provinces and used to built LTC how many seniors would have benefited from it?? Around the same time there was a huge e-health scandal and the provincial government blew another $1.1B on useless consultations to implement an electronic health system. You can tell me how many hospitals could have been built from those $1100M back in 2010 in ON alone. On average it can take 3 to 5 years to built a hospital why was another hospital not built in Brampton when they had the census information and definitely knew what was going on? Even now what has DF done? He has put major cuts on health care spending's through out the Province do you think this will help with getting the healthcare system back in order? He shut down LHIN's all across the province that provided essential homecare services to everyone (who needed) who had a surgery now they are stranded to find house keeping and psw support that they urgently need. Even if hospitals run at capacity with elective surgeries there are only so many that one hospital can do in a year unless there were more hospitals that offered that kind of specialty (not all hospitals offer them) So where do the priorities really lie with the public tax money?? PGP was on back burner during Harper Government they even shut it down for 2 years due to back log but did it reduce time for elective surgeries? Did they start building LTC facilities and hospitals? Also not all parents are seniors my mother is only 54 and working full time she can take care of herself and her expenses. Also every "senior" who is going to land is not going to need healthcare immediately as soon as they will land. Not to mention that for every 1 landed parent there are well over 10 young working PR holders added to the economy. Also with the ever mounting record debts and astronomically long wait times, do you think things will get better in a few years? I bet you it is just matter of time when people/governments start talking about a 2 tier system. It seems like people on this board don't like talking about but I personally feel that it is inevitable.

No you do not become ineligible. CERB is actually counted towards your income. As long as you meet the income requirements you should be fine,

Assume there may be an announcement in the fall. The focus remains on covid, the economy and trying to catch up on the backlog of applications for all immigration programs. They may also be updating the program which was intended for 2020

The steps to apply to sponsor your parents and grandparents will be a bit different for the 2021 process. We’ll randomly select and invite potential sponsors from the remaining pool of interest to sponsor forms submitted in 2020. We’ll send enough invitations to apply to reach our goal of accepting 30,000 complete applications.
