Parent sponsorship Sponsor for mom and not dad

Hi
I wanted to sponsor my mom . But at the same time I dont want to sponsor my dad. He is ailing and is bed ridden at this point. He has parkinsons and is in a late stage. He is not anticipated to continue beyond this year. On the application form it asks me to list all the dependents for my mom. And I have to list dad. He is 75yrs old mom is 68yrs. Also i do have to mention that he is not accompaning and a reason for not accompanying. Would this impact/impact moms application?

Your dad needs to be included in the application. He needs to pass police check and medical exams. And your income needs to cover number of family members including your dad.

However, if all the above pass, he can be non-accompanying. But he needs to be included in all of the application processes.

If he fails the medical, your mom will be refused. If he's not expected to make it soon, you should just let your mother spend as much time with him as she can until he passes, then you can sponsor her

Not to sound harsh, but practically, if there isn’t the expectation for him to survive beyond this year (keep in mind, the elderly can often surprise people with their will to survive), I would apply if you have received the invitation to apply. Your mom can stay with him while it processes and if he is deceased when the medical requests come through, there won’t be the delay of reapplying for the lottery and hoping you are chosen again. His death shouldn’t affect her application negatively.

Sorry, just think realistically.

I am here for advise and view both. And I am being practical. I dont want moms case to be jeopardised by dads. When I say he isnt expected to live long well I am being realisitic . Either ways He is not in a position to travel or make it to a medical exam. He is bedridden and almost not in a position for communicating.
What I would hope is mom can apply and have him added as a non accompanying dependent Exempt for medical test with the understanding that I or mom would never be able to apply for his immigration.

No, it's not possible to exempt him from medical. He must pass a medical exam in order for your mom to be accepted.

Note that is not from the IRCC website.

This is typically used when a separated couple is technically married on paper but have not gone through legal divorce process yet, or when dependent children are under sole custody of an ex that is unwilling to allow their kids to do medical exam.

I have never seen a spouse be exempted from medical, when they were still a married couple and not separated.

Of course you can always submit the app and request father is exempted and understood he can never be sponsored in the future, but I would expect very high chance IRCC will not accept this.

This won't apply to your father. As explained above, it's for instances where couples are in the process of divorcing or have legally separated.
