I don't see how that could backfire. If your son was from another relationship (either you and someone else or your husband and someone else), then CIC would need to ensure that there were appropriate custody arrangements in place lest it accidentally aid in child kidnapping.
On a related note, however, if the sponsor was born in Canada or is a naturalized Canadian citizen, then your child may already be a Canadian citizen.
My husband is a Canadian citizen by birth. Our son was born in US. By the time I submitted the application, he had already become a citizen. I was thinking CIC needed more proof of relationship and that's why they asked for our son's birth certificate.
Did the application asked to send birth certificate of children? I don't remember but if it did I'm sure I sent it with application. Since my son is already a citizen, he is not my accompanying dependent. I don't remember having to provide a lot of information for your dependent who is citizen.
Anyway, I'm just wondering why it was requested. For more proof of relationship? Or I was supposed to send it but I didn't? Or it got lost in their office?
But anyway, all that matter now is the decision and it's on the way to me!
