Hey guys
I couriered my application for NOC 1111 today.
Think I will make it in the cap ??

I honestly think people applying now for NOC 1111 will be in cap. Even the most pessimistic estimates based on extrapolation of available actual data seems to suggest that the 1000 cap will not be filled until the end of the year.

Hi everyone,

Can someone please share his/her thoughts about my scenario mentioned below:

I am ACCA qualified. Since there is a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between ACCA & CGA-Canada, I opted for that option and got CGA-Canada certificate this year. I also hold Bachelors degree by means of ACCA & OBU partnership.

As stated on CIC official website:

Education

You must have:

a Canadian diploma, certificate, or credential
OR

a foreign educational credential, and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) by an agency approved by CIC to show it is equal to a completed Canadian secondary or post-secondary educational credential.

My question as if I qualify for first case which is Canadian Certificate?

Looking forward to a guideline. Thanks.

The Bachelors degree (via ACCA & OBU partnership) will count as a foreign educational credential as it is issued by the UK. You would need to get it assessed by a credential assessment institution such as WES or ICAS. Once that is done, you should get 21 points for education. If you meet the pass mark of 67, then it is OK to apply.

I don't really think the CGA-Canada certificate will be considered in that way as it a professional licensing certificate and not a degree, per se, but who knows. To be safe, I'd go with the OBU bachelor's degree.

Guys i am now hearing that there is another way to get certified in Canada to work as a CPA. All that is needed is to be licenced in any one of the 52 states in the US as a US CPA and it can be transferable to Canada. Can anyone verify this method?

Godfada,

I've done some research on this as well, even before deciding to apply for FSW 2014. I found that there is a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between the US & Canadian accounting bodies [AICPA/NASBA & CICA (now CPA Canada)]. As a result, persons who are licensed as a CPA in one of the eligible US jurisdictions will be able to register for membership with a Canadian chartered accounting provincial body (only after being assessed as eligible) and ultimately get the CPA, CA designation upon completing the Canadian Reciprocity Exam (CARE). Similarly, Canadian CAs (only) can obtain US CPA after doing the IQEX exam. The reciprocity exam is similar in nature to the one that has to be done for ACCA members to gain reciprocity and become Canadian CGAs in that they require knowledge of Canadian business law and taxation. However, the issue is that it is not as clear cut as it sounds, as there are some residency and practical experience requirements, and hence you will only know if you are eligible for reciprocity by applying to a provincial body and them doing an assessment. It is therefore important to note that not all CPAs in all US jurisdictions are eligible for this reciprocity. There are 2 paths - One with a 4-step process and one with a 6-step process. Hence, there are instances where US CPAs licensed in some jurisdictions will still have to do the Professional Education Program (PEP) and Uniform Evaluation (UFE) [2 additional steps, though CARE is not required in this instance]. Therefore, if you haven't yet been licensed, choose carefully.

Refer to the links below for more details:
Information for all of Canada (showing the different pathways available):

Information for Ontario:
http://www.cpaontario.ca/admissions/InternationallyTrainedAccountants/MemberRecipAcctgBody/1010page13478.aspx

Another thing that I have found is that the annual membership fees for the Canadian chartered accounting bodies are HIGH :o! Like in total approaching CAD 1,000 and more!

guys CIC updated caps. its 3510 out of 25000. 747 up highest till date. 1111 reached 116

Hi Guys

Is a professional qualification e.g. CA must if I have to apply for 1111?

I have 3 years of relevant work experience in accounting...and a bachelors degree in Accounting and Finance. However, I dont have a full professional qualification yet.

Thanks

Hi chotu123,

Qualification is not related with your NOC. It is your JD that governs your NOC.

Based on your question you will get points based on your bachelors degree. Part qualifications are not assessed by assessing agencies.

Thanks and regards,

A

I hv an analysis. 116 caps till 23.5.14 applications for 1111. it means 39 appl per week. counting till Aug end caps would hardly reach 500 and much less than that, assuming the rate of caps per week will reduce subsequently (since there would be a huge glut in the beginning days).

Exactly my thoughts as well.

Good thread we have here. Following keenly. I am NOC 1111 applicant. Appl. date is July 4.

Thanks

Also , does everyone have to go through an interview?

No, not everyone, but where CIC has doubts or are unclear on anything they call the applicant for interview.

Thanks and regards,
A
