What's with people's idea with China and cheap labour. If you want cheap labour go to Cambodia or nam. Wages in china have increased faster then anywhere else since the olympics in 2008.

We think that because everything is made there. Plus also because of a show called Dragon's Den where all the dragons want to have things made in China all the time.

Not arguing with ya, just saying that would be why we think that lol

dragon den is a good show and they know the labour laws dont really apply, workforce is a lot, also cheap and access to raw material is easy.

My position would be that Chinese workers were for a very long time indentured servants to corporations. They reaped huge profits from the savings of wages and working conditions. Then justifying it to the West saying that they would not be able to sell their wares at affordable prices if they had to operate under regulations and codes of conduct.

No business goes to China for humanitarian reasons.

Very true. As a Canadian born and raised in Vancouver, despite years and years of trying, my first full time job was when i moved to Japan (I was 25).

Canada has a lot of nepotism in the job industry. It's all about who you know, especially in Vancouver.

I have had the exact opposite, I was in Toronto for 5 years and I couldn't even a job at something like staples, since I moved to Vancouver - I had to quit a day after joining work as I got another offer - worked my way up and now in good high paying job + union

Took about 6 years+, but I always had a decent paying job ( all in Richmond )

Its not an interrogation. I'm wondering why its so easy to emmigrate to China. This is an immigration forum. I'm hear to learn and to pass off things that I've learned. Ttcdfolk doesn't have to answer any questions and I'm trying to word them in a way that he doesn't have to reveal too much personal info.

That chip on my shoulder is my head. I use it to think with and when something doesn't sound right I ask questions.
Makes sense, sorry if I have offended you. I forget that people process things differently. Plus you.are right about the personal info thing

100% correct. There are many businesses that have moved their factories from China to Cambodia or Vietnam for this very reason. China hasn't been a cheap source of labour for several years now.

Well, I can only say from personal experience but usually people move to certain city for job, climate, community - ( seeing your office is kingston ), you will find a large west indian community in Toronto, compared to Vancouver who has majority of Asians and South East Asians but its better in beauty and climate than other places. I have heard Calgary has lot of oppurtunity, less taxes but the weather sucks

Personally, anything but toronto

Whats the average wage now in China? $4 or $5/hour including benefits? Manufacturing goes to where they can exploit the workforce for half that. China is still a cheap source of labour it just no longer is the cheapest.

Weather in Calgary is awesome compared to the humidity and swamp feeling of Toronto.

i dont know why jeep continue to argue with this china guy

1: he say he wont want to work like a redneck in canada yet he filled for his wife
2: canada doesnt let him make money so why move back to there
3: his company is better in china than canada so why not stay
4; what was the real reason for filling
5; you got through already and busy so how come he answers every post

just funny the reason why the thread was started and now led to labour laws in china, the man is going to come back and be lost now lol.

Depends on what your skills are but I would agree that Toronto is not really the best choice to get started. For employment i would pick Saskatchewan. It has steadily growing economy and a very low cost of living.
