Wow, I missed some great conversations yesterday ! I apologize I did not get the spreadsheet updated last night as I had some parental duties with my daughter (finding a costume for school today !), so I promise to update tonight !

Welcome to Chuladaa, our mexican group is growing !

Congradulations to Margarita, that is soooo exciting and my fingers are crossed for you that you are both able to get on that plane together, what a wonderful feeling that will be !

Mexican husbands - I agree, I am so happy with my mexican man, he cooks (and boy does he cook, he knows all his mothers recipes !) He is such a good cook that since he left my daughter constantly complains that my cooking just isnt the same lol. He cleans as well and is so curtious, opening doors, walking on the outside of me, carrying my purse (he never lets me carry anything !). We have cultural clashes from time to time, but I also love the Mexican culture and I can also say that it has shown me to be way more thankful for what I have and to apprecaite everyday, it simplifies life in alot of ways. I also find my man is not as stressed about things as me, he takes it as it comes and i apprecaite that alot, he tends to be the voice of reason , however he also has the passion which can take over reason from time to time lol !

I love that edgar is receiving all this praise of mexican men, must feel awesome to know your culture is apprecaited by us Canadian women !

Last names - we have had this debate as well, My fiance says that technically I would take his fathers last name and add it with my maiden name, but it would sound awful. And is it bad I prefer his mothers last name ! But apparently it would be insulting if I was to take hers and not his dad's. Since our wedding is a ways a way we have some time to debate, I would like to take a name but how and which one or both I dont know yet ... luckily both of his are fairly short, so it wouldnt be so bad to take both !

Ya I could not do the "de" thing. I did want to change my name but it didn't go as planned. I do like that all 3 of us have the same last name. Well last names. LOL.

I didn't realize Mexican women didn't change their names! I do miss my maiden name sometimes. And I don't mind when former students see me and call me Miss J****! =)
Agreed. Despite my moniker, I kept my maiden name. My husband says that means I actually am a Mexican woman at heart LOL

Alright so I just checked my application on eCas and it says that my Medical results have been received :)

The thing is, I just handed in my documents (including my Medical report A or w.e. it's called, that little green paper) a week ago, but I had the actual exam done a month ago on April 30th, so I'm not sure if they mean the exam, or the form itself.

Hmmm...

Yup - they actually stopped allowing 'de' use a few years ago for legal purposes and simply said you can't change your name (nor assume names, which had been the procedure for years). Wreaked havoc for folks having to switch credit cards, etc back to their maiden names *sigh*

For Ontario, the instructions to change your names are here. You may need to do a formal name change (after you each live in ON for a year) since the other one is already on your passport but ask the Office of the Registrar General toll free at 1-800-461-2156 or in Toronto at 416-325-8305.

Well that is interesting. I cannot imagine not being allowed to change my name when I got married!

Thanks for the link. I didn't realize that I didn't legally change my name. I just assumed his name. I guess legally changing your name would issue you a new birth certificate?

I already changed my name with Canada once but if they allow my husband to drop a last name then I will try and change it again. Not sure what to do about the little one though. I think hers would have to be a legal change. We could have just given her one last name but then our names wouldn't have been the same and I didn't want any hassles.

Yes - it's a pain. The US used to be much more mellow about allow you to just drop one of the last names but many states seem to have started cracking down on it lately. Ultimately, it's solveable when you naturalize since you can pick any new name you wish. However, Canada requires provincial proof first. At least Ontario isn't too bad (other than the year long wait). I think your husband will have to legally change his a year after you move. And, it may be easiest to do all three simultaneously.

IIRC, you are American too. To change your US passport, I don't know if they'll just take the Ontario forms, but I suspect that you can use your new birth certificate to ask for the change. You could also use your free time now to change it in California but since it takes a few weeks I don't know if you want to be 'stuck' there before moving.

I know what you mean about having the same last name(s) across the family :)

It'll be weird if you ever get your daughter a Mexican passport since she'll have your maiden name as her second last name!

Wouldn't it be the actual med results that the doctor would have sent?

Congrats! I would think that means the results that have been processed by the RMO and inputted into your file (since eCase pulls info from your CIC file)

I've never really given the name thing i thought i've been sitting here thinking when we move, we'll just drop my SO's 2nd last name and only use his fathers name... Sometimes when he gives his last name here in mex he only uses one last name, depending of course on the place.
Would be really interested to hear what you find out. I sure hope if we marry in Canada I can only take one of his last names. I've had a 3 letter last name my whole life and cannot WAIT to get rid of it but definitely don't want to go to 15 letter 2 names!

I typed up a response but got an error message and lost it. Grr.

I am starting to think two last names is not that bad, LOL! I am seriously tired of paperwork. Visas, passports, proof of citizenship, B4, blah blah blah.

I don't think my daughter can get a Mexican passport. You cannot hold 3 passports can you? We just applied for her US passport today. She looks mean in the photo, but that is normal right? ha ha. We had to wait an hour and a half because you have to do minor passports in person! Oh well, it is done. We ended up in secondary customs coming back from Canada. US citizens have to fly on a US passport even if they're dual citizens and I only had her Canadian passport. It was $22 for her Canadian one. $120 for US. What!
