I am expecting my canadian citizenship Oath ceremony in early June, if my legal status changes from PR to citizen do i have to inform CIC about the change(as i have applied for my wife under spousal class).

you should inform CIC once you're a citizen and send the proof of it, also because it means that you can be outside of Canada if you wish... as a PR, you're required to be in Canada the whole time while sponsoring your spouse, but as a Canadian citizen, you can be outside of Canada as well - so you can stay with your wife for longer periods of time if you wish, and it won't impact your application, as long as CIC is aware that you are a citizen. If you do decide to go and spend some time with your wife, make sure you inform CIC as well - it will count as additional proof of genuine relationship.

not 100% sure of this, but isn't it a rule of CIC that even canadian citizens must return to Canada as part of their sponsorship obligations? They can sponsor from outside Canada, but if they do, they must prove to CIC's satisfaction they intend to return and take up residence there once PR is granted to their sponsored person... But sounds like the OP is in Canada anyway so it's not an issue for him.

Indeed - Canadians living abroad have to send proofs to CIC that they intend to return to Canada and establish themselves there once the PR for their spouse is approved. In this case, if the husband goes and visit his wife, most likely he will still have strong ties to Canada - a house to return to, a job, a bank account, etc. That would be proofs for CIC that the husband is only temporary outside of Canada to spend time with his wife until she gets the PR, but once it is approved, they will both go to Canada.

One more post after this one and I can edit my details. ^^

So, I'm correct in assuming that it could take about 40 days from our application received in Mississauga for us to be confirmed for the first step (the AOR), right? My wife is a little panicky because she read online someone's AOR (assuming she meant AOR) came within 3 days of the application being received. Hm. Maybe that was for a different step...

No buddy, m april 3rd applicant nd haven't received anything ti nw. Its been 53 days. Cic has a big backlog vid March applicants nd many of dem still waiting for da Aor. Nd m so much worried.

Hey guys, I've heard from the news that any new landed immigrants will not have the PR status once they landed. They need to be here in Canada for 2 years, can anyone confirm this as I'am not 100% sure.. Thanks!

Really? So what status will they be given if not PR? I think its a conditional PR? :'(

neochanges i think they're talking about the conditional PR ... i think CIC can strip you from your PR status in these 2 years if you don't respect the condition (live with your sponsor for 2 years in a legitimate relationship). you saw it on the news? did they say it applies for all immigrants (not just from the family class) ?

You know, I'm not really 100% sure because I was just told by my Mom and Dad.

Yeah, you get PR status when you land but it's 'conditional' meaning if you don't have any children in common with your spouse or have not been married for more than 2 years, you have a 2 year conditional PR where you must live together for those two years or your PR may be revoked.

Oh ok, I see what you mean. I just assumed, because from what they've heard it's the new process and we all know that the 2 year conditional PR status has been implemented a few years ago.

For those who went an application this month, how did you guys send the application via registered mail, express or courier?
I'm completely concerned as I requested my package to be signed on delivery. I used the tracking number and then it said delivered with no signature when I paid for signature service. I obviously complained to canada post about this but they kept reassuring me it was delivered. I won't have anyway of confirming they received my app until I wait 47 days or whatever the wait time is on applications. Should I be concerned?

yokies, i sent mine via courier.. i heard some lost their docs with Canada Post so i wanted to be extra sure. we also got the "signature at arrival" service and when i checked it was actually signed by someone. Can you tell us to what exact adress you sent the package? Canada Post delivers to a P.O. box so it's understandable that you don't have a signature. There are 2 adresses, one for courier and one for Canada Post, so if you sent it to the P.O. box you should be fine :)
