Just thought I'd popped in regarding the driving insurance in Philippines.
My dad adviced my husband to get a letter from LTO (Land Transportation Office) stating how many year he has been holding a license in the Philippines, and a certificate that he never had any claims.
Dad said it will be helpful when husband applies for car insurance when he gets here. Apparently it will reduce 30-50% of the car insurance fee.
Plus, he doesn't need to go through a Novice license, and just get professional license right away after passing the road test.

Anyway, so husband doesn't have time to go to LTO and do all these. He paid someone 5K pesos to process it for him, I guess someone working in LTO. I think he's gonna get it by the end of this month. I know it's corrupt, but we did not really want all the hassle.

So it takes a while to get this? Yeah, 5K can get you anything at LTO Hmmm maybe I should get this guy's contact info. When my guy went to LTO in Davao it was a 2 day nightmare. They have this cutoff for registration and they said come back at 1.. come back tomorrow.. then the next day they said come back at 1pm again! Driving a car = freedom.. I want him to feel free as possible not like stuck in the house because he can't do anything. I just wish he could learn the driving rules too

With reference to your query, hereunder is the requirements & procedures to wit:
7.1. The authorized representative here in the Philippines may file your written request at LTO, License Section, W -10, East Avenue, QC;
7.2. Certification Fee is P100.00;
7.3. State your purpose;
7.4. For easy reference, please include in your request complete name, birthday, and driver’s license no., if available.
7.5. Certification is being issued by mail or through representative (due to issuance of Official Receipts and use of Security papers for authentication purposes).

I was also wondering about the driver license. Does anyone know the process for this?. I assume it is probably a province to province issue.

Their philipino drivers licence is valid for 6 months, then they have to take exactly the same testing as we do

Depends on the Province. We have graduated licensing in BC, but they will be exempt if they show proof of driving history that's 2 years or more.

Anyway, I sent him a driving textbook. I don't know if he started reading it yet. Altho I know he is a good driver, he still has a lot to learn esp Canada rules in driving. LOL

My guy is a good driver.. in the Phils! He drives 30 on the National highway honks at everything.. honking to honk

I found a few online services that can do it. I saw some people complaining online that the LTO will only issue these "LTO Certification" Driving abstract in their main branch in Quezon City. So I'm not sure if I should send him on a wild goose chase. I also heard talk that you have to get it 'red ribboned' by the DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs).. this can take a few days and sounds like a big headache. I might just use one of the following online services.. especially considering it might not be possible in the Province.

The second one, Pakisuyo, is so much more expensive. The website said 3,500 to be paid on paypal plus delivery, now they are quoting 5,500-6,500 by email for an assumed delivery abroad.
The first one is only 1,400 so I think we will go with that one and see how it goes.

This is interesting. I got the MP to email about medicals today, and the Embassy just emailed to ask if he completed the Medical (they say they received the medical of his kids but not his)
*However* they said they had been trying to phone him. He said he was receiving phone calls yesterday from a Vancouver number and a Calgary number, but both were dropped calls.. he called the numbers back and got some random people that didn't know him.

Anyways. I tried to reply to the email and it's return to sender. How can I reply to them?
