Have the spousal sponsorship forms been updated? When I applied, they specifically asked if the marriage was arranged.

I'm pretty sure that question is still on there. We noticed it while filing out our forms..... two weeks ago. It also asks things like "Did someone introduce your to your spouse?" I think "Was your marriage arranged?" after that.

If it's the case of an arranged marriage, but you have grown to love each other and now it's also a love match, I would be honest and tell CIC this. You're in Canada now and not bound to arranged marriages - you really love her now and decided to commit to the marriage based on your feelings towards her and not cultural expectations. I had an English teacher in high school from India that had that circumstance and that's what she told us.

Good Morning darlings!!!

Question, how would CIC tell if a marriage has been arranged? Can't it be that they met, fell in love overnight and decided to tie the knot?

Just curious if these couples get branded with some sort of stamp that says, "Arranged".

Good morning :-*

I don't know much about the arranged marriage thing, I'm sure they'd look at the country of origin plus religion. I think they would find it fishy to see someone fell in love overnight.
It's an interesting topic.
I had a boyfriend from India once and he broke up with me when he found out his parents were arranging a marriage for him. He couldn't say no out of respect for the families.

In some cultures it's very normal and expected - plus if you mark "no" but it slips out at the interview - you're in trouble!

People do become 'infatuated' over night :P Real love takes time - and that same infatuation might become real love. It was the case with my husband and I. We met, I ignored him for a good two weeks because I thought he was weird, then I woke up one day and he was all I could think about. Twelve days later, we were a couple and it's been that way since :D

I love stories how love just hits you! Mine was similar.. i gave Mr M the third degree about everything when we met. A couple weeks later I knew I wanted to maximize my time and spend every minute I could before I went home with him. And he felt the same so we planned our trip to TZ and decided to make it our honeymoon because his heart chose me and he had what I wanted. So we registered before I left Malawi and we have been together ever since.

Good morning everyone... Still trying to dig out of the blues... But am definitely around. Hoping for a great weekend! Gotta add some sunshine to my world!!!

And doesnt CIC look favorably on love at first sight?

wow!! I'm always a little jealous of the fast love stories!! Brad and I were friends for almost 2 years before we were really dating! The funny thing is when we first started hanging out I though he would be fun to date but not really marriage material...lol how wrong I was!! I had to ask him out on our first official date and everything! It literally came down to me saying to him "I like you... Like really like you!" and he was like"oh... Yeah I like you too!" and that was it! lol! And don't even get me started about really cute planed out proposals!!!

nope... you might even have me beat with that! I was down visiting for all of Christmas and New Years. We had been talking about getting married and when we would do it and all of that for months at that point and even had a date picked but he had yet to really ask me. I told him that there was no way I could just move down here to get married without having a ring on my finger and his family knowing about the upcoming wedding...lol So while I was there we went and looked at rings and whatnot so I thought it would happen Christmas morning...NOPE! Then we went to see the Nutcracker and out for a really nice dinner so I thought it would happen then...NOPE! Then it was New Years eve and I thought maybe at midnight....NOPE! So there I was the day I was getting ready to fly back to Alberta and I was like "if you aren't serious then I think I have to cut my losses!" He did his best to get me really mad at him all day! I wasn't even talking to him by the time we headed back to his parents place to pack my stuff to head to the airport! We pulled into the garage and he just opened the glove box and there was the ring box and then he just started to cry... I was still a bit pissed and was like "was there something you wanted to ask?!" lol Then his little sister opened the door and just glared at us from the doorway... it was pretty funny! So eventually he did croak out "will you marry me?" and for some crazy reason I said yes...lol!

He cried? Still cute and in its own way, and I'm sure there is a lot in that that reflects on who he is. And it means something your still together with a houseful of little ones!! Mr. M keeps telling me I'm gonna get the whole kit and caboodle someday... I just need to be patient! See what someday brings!!

At least you got asked. I'm still bitter about it.

Why bitter? You asked?

I made my expectation very clear. Even after I had the rings, nothing. I have no engagement ring either.

Well at least there were no doubts on your end! And you love him, so it's worth something.
I don't have a ring either... But I get told its just a matter of time or a trip to malawi!
