The stamped & signed COPR is your Record of Landing. U'll need that everywhere, until u get your PRCs. Staple it on the back page of your Pps, for pete's sake... Some BSOs do that, while some don't, mine wasn't done... & I nearly lost it. Thus, took an hr+ searching it while going for the G1 test.

Hi Qorax,
I know in one of your earlier posts you mentioned that TVs from Asia will not work in Canada because of the voltage difference. I was wondering that the solution for that could be step up/down convertors... but the other hitch is that most TVs in India support PAL while in Canada, I guess it would be NTSC system- is there a solution to that?

Any landed friends have taken their TV to Canada from this part of the globe?

U r right. It's NTSC here & I'm not aware of any [cost effective] solution to that. Besides, why we shouldn't get our TVs here is:
A. The transportation costs will not make it worth.
B. U have better choices & models (daily everywhere).
C. TVs r quite cheap here.
D. For the cost conscious, there r nice Refurbished, as well as Display Model Bargains.
E. U can get an older model LCD 42" for $500+, with a yr's Warantee.

Thus, there might be no requirement of unnecessarily fetching our previous TVs. Unless, there a nostalgic value added to it.

Hi,

The copy of COPR is given to you which has the immigration officer Employee ID number, the port from which you entered in Canada and it is the record of landing. Hope I have answered your question.

Hi seniors,
What about the income tax? Is there any idea.i heard that the tax is about 40% of our total income. Is that right?
If you fall in high income bracket then it is 41% but benefit are way better and this is just my opinion based of facts and secondary information i know.

Hi Rocky

How is your job hunting going on? As you are in Toronto, can you shed some light on monthly expenditure for a family of three? I will be landing in sep or oct with my wife and 4 year old son. It's better if we can assess our exps beforehand.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Maverick,

Pre 2006 [I guess] there was a separate form called, "the Record of Landing Form", it was IMM1000. It has been discontinued since. And replaced with our COPR [Confirmation of Permanent Residence], which is IMM5292.

For the Visa nowadays we get the following from our CHC:
1. Passports with Visa stamped,
2. The COPR [one each for every family member, including Kids],
3. An Explanation/Advisory Letter [2 pages].

If u have got al the 3 above, u r good to go. I have not yet come across anything called 'Copy of PR Card Requisition form'. Probably u r referring to the PRC Application Form (IMM 5444E) that's needed to obtain our 2nd PR Card set. Note that this IMM 5444E is not needed for 'landing' & our 1st PR Cards.

As u hit the New Immigrant's Section in the Airport [after the 1st desk], a BSO will call u in his/her cabin to perform your 'Record of Landing'. Here s/he will ask u some questions, take your Canadian Address, enquire on the Landing funds etc., Log it all into his/her computer and make u sign the COPR [inside the box]. This is the process of Record of Landing, nowadays.

After which, s/he will Welcome U to Canada, admit that the PR Cards will follow in approx 30 days, with a delay sometimes; And enquire from u if u have any questions. On your negative, s/he will hand u over the copy of your COPR [sometimes s/he will staple it into your Pp], signed, date stamped with his/her CBSA ID No. And there u go...

I hope now u r clarified.

Dear QORAX. Rocky, Seniors,
Is there any way to check the status of PR card? I've landed on 26th May and till date havent got PR card. Yesterday i want to the driving license office to take the knowledge test, but they were asking for the PR card and denied me. Is it really required for the knowledge test?

U r Ok with the system yet. Hmisabpk has landed in the 1st few days of May 2010 & haven't got it (the PRC) yet. It usually takes 6 weeks.

No. For the G1 test, PR cards r not required. They need the pps & the COPR only. Which Drive Test Center did u go for it?

It's just a letter advising us about the landing procedure, Must land by the Visa Expiry Date (else we go all over again), job search, imp weblinks etc. Most of it's available at the CIC website & have been discussed over-n-over again here.

Don't worry about it.

That's surprising. For the DL, PR Cards has nothing to do. I wasn't asked and so did none in Toronto, who I know. And that's over 50-60 pax.

Hey,

Well, they must have asked you for an ID - and Indian Passport along with the landing form, which is the copy of COPR is sufficient and I took my test with these documents.
