Hi Binny8,

Did you receive your PR Card?

What was your port of entry? I am planning to land in Aug and wondering about the period frame to get the PR Card. If you can share your experience in getting the PR card, it will be helpful for me.

Regards,
Irmaar.

All the money i am taking to canada was saved by me when i was working in sharjah. There we have no incom tax. My salary was directly transferred to my account in "Sharjah Islamic Bank". In India i have worked for 2 years and have not filed incom tax....

How do i prove my income...It's All my savings..Why should i have to declare my money here in india so that the Bloody F*** Government of India can suck my hard earned money out...

ITS ALL MY SAVINGS...!!!

Rocky..Congrats on your landing!! Saw the write up on your expeirence and it was a great help indeed
&
Quorax..I have been learning quite a lot from you both.

I have resigned my current job inspite of many stopped me doing this by giving a negative picutre about Canada's life ... Cold Country, No proper Jobs, very far from home land :(.. But I see your writings to boost my confidence... serving notice period now.

Started working on my checklist.. 1st working on Proof of Funds:

Checked with Scotia bank locally whether I can show the deposited funds as the POF. They are not aware of Canadian norms. I feel having account opened is a better idea than carrying cash and drafts.. To my mind, Officers will not reject this, but my question how can we prove it practically as I can't withdraw cash immediately in the POE as we have to visit the branch to activate my canada account. Do you have any idea about this?

Checked the flights, Air India seems to be more cheaper than other vendors for Aug '10. Make my trip also gave good option.... do you advice to go direct to vendors or through yatra/make my trips?

I have many more to follow... and will be definitely taking your lot of time.

Thanks
Hi

Regarding Account with Scotia will suggest you to open it once you land in Canada. Get a Banker's Cheque in your name and then deposit it in your account in Local currency that is CAD. You will get better options here like an unsecured CC for 1000 CAD limit or more and no fee account for 1 year. Make my trip and yatra are good options but suggesting you not to fly by Air India is really not a very friendly service. Try Jet its good.

Request mind your language... Don't think others take your words easily as you think. We are aiming at same objective going to Canada, at the same time we shouldn't insult our country. I don't want to get into this... but I can't bear a single moment which makes my country down. Hope you agree with me and you take back your words back.

LANDED..........

Hi,

I finally landed In edmonton on 7th June from US and back to US on 9th. It was pretty easy. I was the only one that time landing. To all the people who are planning to land in Edmonton, Please dont assume a mere bank statement will work. They dont see it. They will see your cashiers check, travellers check , cash etc. They actually counted every dollar. Mayb they din have anything to do for a while and i was the first person to land there that day. Other things are cool no problem.

They listed my car in the goods to follow list even though my car is under financing terms. They only need the insurance and registration papers showing the VIN number of your car.

Also from the airport dont take taxi as they have another very popular ground transportation called "SKY SHUTTLE". after you are done with landing formalities, go to door# 7 and you can see the sky shuttle counter. its more cheaper. Edmonton airport is far far away from edmonton city so a cab might cost you a fortune.

I am living in US for a long time now and i should warn you all that Canada is much much expensive than US. A cigarette pack cost 11 CAD (Damnnn!!!!). Even Los Angeles is not that much. Housing is very expensive thats what i saw there and i heard from my friends who lives there. The salary levels are much lower there than US and you cant save much after paying taxes. But transportation system is nice. You can manage without a car for sometime. Not like US, without a car u are half paralyzed.

Ok now regarding employment, i can only talk about the Civil engineering professional as i am a civil engineer working in US. For a civil engineer to work in Canada you need to be licensed. I am a licensed Civil Engineer in US with all my studies in US but still i need to give another registration test in Canada and get myself licensed there. Registration test in Canada is much easier and includes only ethics test, not like US that has full technical questions. For people whose working experience is outside US or Canada, no matter how many decades of experience they have in their field, u need some north american experience before you qualify to take the test to get yourself licensed. Remember it is illegal to call yourself an "ENGINEER" in US and Canada unless you are licensed. But on a good note, there are pleanty of Civil Engineering jobs in Canada. If your resume is out of US and Canada, it needs a major makeover. Put in your resume mostly like "DESIGN" oriented job functions that you did and not like co-ordinating this and that. If you been an upper level manager in your last job its good for you, but they do not care much how many people you have managed, rather than how much design experience you have in projects and how much practical experience you have in the job sites. We have lots of testing jobs on concrete and asphalt here, so if you have any certificates on those its a goldmine for you. Also in your resume mention that you did volunteer work. Not necessary the volunteer work should be in your field it can be anywhere, for example volunteered in blood drive group, volunteered in some type of religious functions. They do not want a person who just talks about work work and work. You need to show that u very easily socialize not only in your professional group but with anyone. All projects in US and Canada are client driven, so you have to socialize with the clients a lott, might have to take them for luncheon or mayb for a golf. Not necessary i am telling you need to learn golf for that but thats just an example to tell that u have to do many things out of your routine job duties. Civil engineering is the only field which has some entry level positions. Those positions needs you to spend a lot of time in job sites under extreme weather conditions. Here we have to do all by ourself, like driving to a job site on our own, make concrete cylinders and sampling soil samples. No one will drive us around and will pick our things. We civil engineers always get dirty in the job sites so dont forget to mention lot of actual job site experience. For the licensing requirement please check your province website. If you are planning to work in Alberta i can give u information on licensing as i collected all information.

PS: If anyone already moved to Canada and not getting calls from engineering companies go and also offer volunteer work for sometime so that you can learn their way of work. Chances are u might get absorbed from same company or they will refer you to other company for a full time if they like you.

Hope it helps

Good Luck

hello everyone,

i am new here and anxious about my application, but after reading all the nice and informative things posted, I feel relieved that there is a lot of hope for me and others who are just starting the procedure. I was reading for the last three days and I've seen the most helpful seniors and star members, I've read about the drama and anxiety and the triumph for most of the nice people here. Thank you for a very informative thread. Hope to read some more, I am your most avid fan.

Regarding Driving Test

Hi,

Just follow the questions on this link and you should be able to clear the G1- Learner's Test in Ontario.

http://www.apnatoronto.com/ontario-g1-practice-test.html

Also very important information, if you plan to get authenticity letter from India for your driving licence then make sure the date of issue of that letter is mentioned on that letter.

Best of luck

Rocky, Thanks for the information. I have one question.
Is it mandatory to get Authority letter for Driving Licence from RTA in India? What are the options if we don't have Authority letter .

Thanks
