Hey there, I did my taxes with my hubby on there for the first time....not sure if it will go through but I claimed him as a dependent.....sent in supporting documentation that I support him in JA . You have to include him on your taxes and put his income on if he has one....

Thanks Chickie!
I will include him and include his income.

Hi Everyone!

I claimed my husband as a dependent and I filed as married for the first time this year. I had my taxes filed at H&R block and I was very clear with the lady that my husband wasn't in Canada. She said that it doesn't matter as long as I am legally married that you can claim your spouse as a dependent. I had to tell her what his "world income" was in Canadian dollars and I gave her a copy of my marriage certificate to keep on file and I also had with me copies of Western Union transfers as proof that I support him from time to time. She said that CRA would most likely do an inquiry but because I'd given her proof of marriage and financial support that they wouldn't need to contact me again and that HR Block would take care of it if there was an inquiry. Hope that helps :)

On another note I just received a letter from CRA saying that I was being reassessed on my GST Benefit credit because my status had changed to married. I had to send them a letter explaining that my husband was not yet in the country and give them his world income for 2011.

Fingers crossed that there's good news this week for everyone!

how did you get the "world income"? I claimed my husband but I need to provide average cost for a jamaican to live in jamaica

My husband gave me the totals from his last pay-stub of the year. I wasn't asked to provide cost of living so I'm not sure on that one.

Kingston, our friend, why have you been so quiet lately? Please throw us a bone or two or three, or four this week. Didn't you hear Chickie shouting at you this morning? We are waiting for passports to be returned, PPR's, and an interview date for our brother Maddants. There are still three more work days this week to show us the love. We are all waiting here like good little girls and boys. Please make this a very special week for one of us, some of us, or all of us.

And while I'm on my soapbox, POS, please show our friends on the POS thead some love this week too.

Chickie, I am so happy for you. What great news! Things are really moving for you FINALLY!!! :D Good thing you're working on the last part of your online course so that you'll have lots of time for your hubby when he comes home. I can almost smell the end for you!!!!

I'm busy with work, although you wouldn't think so with all the time I spent posting on the forum today. :-[ I'm moving on May 1 and then I'm heading to Montreal for our annual work conference so I'm busy with packing and preparing. With my luck hubby will get PPR when I'm travelling for work! Murphy's Law!

I need my weekly dose of Daddy's Girl!!!! Come out, come out, wherever you are and spread some sunshine on our thread! :D
