I do worry sometimes too, just because the first half of our relationship was online...all we had were like 30 pages of internet chat messages as proof of relationship, as well as just a couple of pictures from when we visited each other. I always tell my husband, it would have been so much easier if we hadn't lived so far apart...just imagine how easy it would have been if I lived down the street, or worked close to him and happened to meet him at a coffee shop or something. I just really hope whoever actually works on our application is open to people finding love over the internet...
I thought for sure that our application was going to get the stink-eye as well. My husband and I had a whirl-wind relationship. We met in March 2012 over the internet (dating site), met in person in April 2012, moved to another province together in September 2012, were engaged in November 2012 and married in January of 2013. We applied April 2013. Our parents didn't attend our wedding.

We weren't interviewed and received AIP in 10 months, DM a month after that and landed soon after.

For those on the outside looking in, it could have been a disaster. We provided a strong application: text messages that showed the development of our relationship, letters from family and friends, vacation photos and flight itineraries as well as movie stubs, birthday cards etc.

Believe in your relationship. If you get interviewed, so what? It's your opportunity to prove to them how real your relationship actually is. Statistically, online dating is second only to meeting someone through friends... which is the "traditional" way.

EDIT:

I love the quote in your signature! :) It's been a favourite of mine for a while, more so recently when my husband gets all high-strung on this PR card waiting time. :p

I keep understanding why we "inland applicants" takes longer process than others. The reason why is we are here already in Canada, we can't go anywhere. Also, immigration does not care about us since we are not voting for election. This is what my immigration officer friend told me. Any how, for us, we are still thankfull, be positive and just wait. After all we can't do anything about it. Keep smilling :)
I can't accept this explanation. If we would get OWP earlier, we could work, have more money to spend, it would be better to the economy. I think they just don't want to spend more to employ more officer at CIC, they think this is enough, we can wait this long.

Agreed! Why the OWP has to be based on AIP, rather than AOR is beyond me. How can letting an applicant work, pay taxes and contribute to their local economy be such a risk to Canada, prior to AIP?

This, combined with the wait times for landing interviews (one person recently reported that they just received their Vancouver landing interview for May 27th...yet they had DM in Oct of last year), not to mention the 68 + day wait for a PR card to arrive in the mail.

Grrr!!! LOL!

Yah, I know I was suprised when they told me about this. I only hope that they will lessen the waiting time for stage 1 so we can move on to our lives... :) and just wait watever for our landing result is...

Hi!
I was reading some posts earlier and I'm quite confused now. I submitted my application back in October 2013. At the time I had my work and study permit, which expired already in April 2014. Now I am thinking if I had to apply for a visitor visa to stay in Canada until I receive first stage approval? I know that citizens of my country are allowed to stay in Canada for 6 months after the arrival without asking for any additional visas, only the stamp on passport is fine. Maybe anybody knows if I should just apply for visa, or go get the stamp or just stay like this? I did not submit OWP with the whole application, which I regret know :) thanks so much!!

I have situation as you are, my post graduate work permit expired in July 2013, we need to have a legal status in Canada so I applied for vistors visa. Normally they will give you 1 yr. we need to wait for AIP before applying for open work permit.

For the stamps, well your not entering Canada, you are here already so I think your 6 months after arrival is not valid, but maybe I am wrong. Probably somebody need to advice you from that.
