Hi,

Yes you can...I got my drivers license in edmonton based on my visitor record and marriage certificate. I exchanged my US drivers license for Alberta license and you have to make sure that your visitor record is valid for 6 months at least.

However, not all registries know about this. Luckily, the second registry I tried, gave me the drivers license valid for 1 year.

Line,

Can one get a driver's license on a visitor visa in Alberta, provided they prove that they are legally married to an Alberta resident, just like a heath card..............

I was able to get Alberta healthcare card based on my marriage license............You need to go to your local registry and present your marriage license, a valid visitor visa and your spouse's healthcare card. They will send you a Alberta healthcard (valid until your current visa).

We are only common-law so i doubt we have enough proof yet, but once i receive the AIP email i'll be going to the registry instantly :)

I'm from Calgary too, in SW. I have a question. After AIP and DM, how long does it get to get the landing interview appointment?

We also live in Calgary! Just north of china town..

Wow. Once again, i'm amazed to see how many Calgarians there are here :)

Im a Calgarian also (SW).. but only for a week longer. We move to Fernie next week as it was either Fernie or giving up! My partner is away all the time for work now, which I would be also if I had my work visa. So I plan to snowboard the time away. The only way I can keep some sanity. Im just hoping my visa comes though soon so I can go back to work with him.

Any one from Montreal

I live on the NE side Abbeydale... We are all close to each other that's nice to know how many Calgarians we have here.

That is exactly what we are waiting for.... fingers crosssed I just checked the CIC on Friday and they updated the processing time for step 2 to 11 months from 8 months... that's the frusterating part because we have already waited for 20 months before we received our AIP and now this... though I was told by the CIC that they normally take max 4-6 months to process the stage 2 and send us landing interviews to come take our PR letters. so I hope that my husband gets his by January or February... I was hoping the CIC will surprise us in January too as i'm due in January for my 2nd baby too.... fingers crossed.....
