You and me both!! I'm highly not convinced we will get our AIPs anytime soon, but lets still hope so. I joined the gym recently, puts off the stress and gives me something to do instead of sleeping in every day! So happy :)

Yes being bilingual is amazing!! Particularly French. Danish isn't used at all out here I think lol.

Yes, it's good to keep busy somehow! I speak a little French, but in Ontario it's not used very much.

Hi all,
On a positive note, I now have a Canadian tax number, even though I cant work, still got to file taxes. Secondly I now have a Canadian drivers licence - just a straight exchange for my UK one, no test. It was a bit strange handing over my UK licence, cant keep it when you exchange it.

Ok so we should see an 'update' today or tomorrow. As lame in my opinion as it was to see a 4 day move, I'm really hoping we see another move this week, at least to show that we should be getting closer to AIP. Just want to see some progression here.

I am in the same boat as you CRA stop all my wife payments and said that they need my information so I had to file for all the time I spend in Canada even if I was not working we just mailed it out today hopefully she will get her tax benefits soon.

I was unable to get a license in England i was mad beyond compare. So after cataracts surgery and laser surgery I am taking it up here which means a year with a learned before I can pass my test. I'm hoping with an OWP that I can start it!!

I'm sorry but I read your post and it made me wonder. Do we have to file taxes even if we do not work here..???

That is so frustrating for you! I thought I'd get a G2 licence as i had no record of driving over here. However a full UK licence is good enough for an exchange to a full G here in Ontario.

Good luck with your test etc :)

Hi Happywife08,
Not sure of your situation but heres mine: My wife is Canadian and works full time and has 2 children. She filed her taxes this year and put us down as common-law. Straight away all her tax benefits stopped. Even though I do not work, do not have a SIN number, I still had to file my taxes for 2001 and 2012. I could not do that without a SIN, so I had to apply for a ITN ( International Tax Number ). I have that now. Taxes filed showing $0 income. My wifes tax credits are now starting to come back.

However, and no one in the tax office can explain this, what I earned in the UK in 2011 tax year BEFORE I came to Canada is taken into account! Hence why my wife owed some tax credit money :(

Something else I learned was: according to the CRA we are classed as common law THE DAY WE BEGAN LIVING TOGETHER. Wheras for immigration purposes we are classed as common law only after we have lived together for a year. That is why I wasnt on the tax returns for 2011, we thought we were not classed as common-law.

So what I would say to you is get a tax number and file your taxes, even if your income is zero. Additionally the CRA wants to know your WORLD income, even if you are not working in Canada.

If you are in Canada (even as a visitor) for more than 180 days, your spouse has to claim you. This is what CRA told me when I called.

I know *I* owed Québec $200 when we filed our taxes. $200 for health benefits for which I'M NOT ELIGIBLE, haha, when I've never earned a dime in Canada. I'm lucky that my husband's military, so I have federal health benefits, but still, I had to laugh at Québec holding out its hand for my $200.

omg lucky you! They gave me G2.. I had 1.5 year experience on my Full UK license, they required 2 years experience on it to be eligible for a Full G Ontario license. I now have my G2 Exit test in sept :(

I have a dilemma with my PR application which was submitted.

It appears I filled the wrong box on my OWP application and it has now been sent back to me. Since this has happened my work permit has expired and I am out of status. I am wondering what the best option to restore my status and receive an open work permit as quickly as possible.

Interesting I had to do the exact same thing but they didn't tell me d day we began living together was considered common law
