Dear Johanna

Depends where your landing office is? In Ontario usually they will issue you one right after landing which you can use it right away, however the actual Sin card comes after 2 weeks in mail. Any where else especially in BC you have to wait till you get your PR card and then apply in any service Canada office near your area.

Thanks hamedsilent. Im landing in Etobicoke on Oct 15. Someone said that I can get a SIN in the same building.

But you know you don't really need the card. I walked into Service Canada with my work permit and they gave me a print out of my temporary SIN and that was all I needed. The same will be true for your permanent number. In fact, they tell you NOT to carry the card in your wallet. Memorized it and leave it securely at home. So believe it or not it will take you approximately 5 minutes to get and use your SIN. The speed could make you faint. Anticipation

thanks anticipation :)

Actually, RPRF can happen quickly - I saw someone who paid it and two weeks later had PPR. So it seems to depend upon the VO.

Thanks kitchener_inland - now we need to get you landed so you can celebrate as well. :)

Hi kitchener inland. Congrats on your landing date. As a reply to your query, here's my timeline:

App sent : Jan. 25, 2012
Starting processing on : May 22, 2012
AIP : Sept 19, 2012
Stage 2 DM : Sept 20, 2012
Landing on : Oct 15, 2012

Total waiting time from the time I sent my application up to the date of my landing : 8.5 months

Mine is simple case. Under spouse category, no dependents, no kids. We didn't hire any lawyer. Did the medical on Feb 2012. Sent the police clearance from my country in the same PR application in January 2012. Didn't pay the $490 fee yet. Will pay that when I land.

Everything came in so fast. Honestly, I was expecting to complete the whole process by 2013 because I only sent my application on January 25, 2012. But now, I can't believe that I will be landing within the next 20 hours. :) OMG !

Congratulations! It may be just a little piece of paper stuck in your passport, but being a permanent resident is a great feeling.

I am so frustrated! I see everybody getting their PR and I am still waiting! Mine is a very simple case, both of us are first marriage, no kids, no big age gap nothing! We had our first stage approved on June 25 and since then waiting for second stage. they requested new police certificates and they received them in August. No word from immigration since. I am already working, which makes it easier, but it really pissed me off why they are taking so long to finish mine, while most people are all done under 1 year. >:( I am just venting, I can't understand immigration, hopefully they will work on my process anytime soon.
