I ordered my notes at the beginning of January 2013 using the new form and chose 'electronic files' because according to the instructions (which of course aren't always clear!) if you choose 'application status' you will only receive a few lines of information. I hope I did it correctly...

Sounds right.

Im pretty sure ours were extended according to the notes..

there was an out going letter in our notes that was cancelled a little over a month before we got AIP. Im curious about it, any ideas?

i wanted to order gcms notes for our spousal sponsorship application. My sponsor is currently living with me outside Canada. Could my sponsor still order those notes for us? and if not could her brother (living in canada) order them?
cuz on imm 5563 it asks for requester's info and proof of living in canada, so i gather from that the requester has to be present in canada.

plz advise.

Her brother will have to order them, and you will both have to sign release forms authorizing the ATIP office to send the information to her brother. Her brother can then forward them to you (they come as a PDF file attached to an e-mail normally).

Since this is an access to information request, there will be a $5 fee.

There are also commercial services that do this for a modest fee and can help you interpret the notes as well.

Thank you for your help.
and just confirming-- there is a box on the ATIP form that says spouse signature if applicable. So, I believe I sign on that same form.? or do i have to fill out another separate form like this?

The same form is fine.

Does an app have to be in-process to have anything in the GCMS? My application is still "application received".

No. If it's in E-cas, you have GCMS notes. They might be boring and tell you little, but you will have them.

Hi everyone,

My wife is presently in Canada as a visitor and we want to request our notes. If I understand correctly, she can request them for herself under the privacy act because she is currently here, but I am not sure if she needs to provide proof of her stay. The instructions on the form (IMM 5563) say that if the person requesting the notes has a mailing address in Canada, there is no need to send proof, but the instructions on the website say proof is needed. Should I send proof anyway?

Thanks!

You can send proof, but they shouldn't need it. Note that the comment on the IMM 5563 is new as of January 2013, while the website hasn't changed in a while...

I've used one: caipscheck.ca, run by a nice lady on Salt Spring Island here in BC. She can assist you in preparing the request paperwork, she then submits it and forwards the results to you. She offers interpretation services as well. I'd check her website for current fees, but my recollection is that it's something like $30-100 depending upon what you're requesting.
