in this scenario, wouldn't the children be us citizens, because 1 parent is a us citizen?

i have no idea how to answer these questions, hopefully someone else can answer them for you.

Let me rephrase my question, hoping it clearer than before: If the principal applicant is a US citizen and the spouse is not and NOT from a visa exempt country, do they receive COPR or they have to send both passports to CIC?

Hey,

This is my first time posting anything on here. Hopefully doing this right way.

Recently, I just received letter from CPC- Ottawa to send in passport for visa. If any one could help me out here to answer my questions. I haven't received a COPR letter yet, I am not sure if it is different for everyone. Will I receive it once they send back my passport or any idea how it works at CPC- Ottawa? Also once they receive passport do they update on CIC system to notify that they have receive it like they update about IN PROCESS or Decision made. Please let me know if anyone knows any information.

Sounds like u are not from a visa exempt country- because they asked u to send ur passport. No info on passport will be included on ecas

Thanks for your response. Well I have a green card and and passport from non-exempt country. I had a feeling I would be asked to provide passport for stamp. I do reside in USA so I was not 100 % sure if it will be required or not. I wonder how long they will take to send it back to me. Lets hope soon.

a COPR is not issued until a decision is made. it is your approval paper, and will accompany your passport that has been stamped or have a counterfoil inserted. Once you send in your passport, and they receive it, your ecas will most likely change to in process, then decision made would confirm they are finished with your processing and they have sent everything to you.

They asked for PPR after decision was made. Are you saying after sending the passport it goes back to in process and than decision made again. I am a bit confused if you can please clarify. Thank you.

The information you gave was incomplete. And Rhcohen2014 is right. Based on what you just said, your application is nearing completion as the visa is in the process of being issued. After DM and visa issuance, the ecas status will indicate Complete. Keep yourself ready for transition to Canada. I hope this helps.
Thanks

it must be different when you actually need a visa from ottawa. must of us don't. so if you're at dm made, and they asked for the passport, then that's how it will stay. again, you won't get your COPR until you send them your passport, they stamp it, and send it back.

yeah, as others have said, decision has been made (approved) and they are asking for your passport to add the visa to it. They would only do this if you have been approved.

Part of the confusion is that you're asking an FSW question in a family sponsorship area.

Since the spouse isn't visa exempt, at least the spouse's passport must be sent to the visa office so the counterfoil (one use entry visa) can be inserted into the passport. Whether they ask for just the spouse's passport or both is up to the visa office. When done, they would send back BOTH Confirmation of Permanent Residence documents with one (or both) passports.

Note that the primary applicant must land before (or simultaneous with) anyone else on the application.

Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes the Ottawa office to reply to emails?just wondering,is it the type of thing that takes a few weeks for a reply?or is it not that long of a wait?
My partner got replies from Ottawa recently in about 4 business days.

Thanks for the response. Most important is the answer not where it was posted!
