Does anybody know after how many months of living (with work or study permit) in Canada an applicant can apply outland through Ottawa instead of his/her home country? I thought it was after 12 months but I can't find any information on the CIC website. The question came up in a FB group

i believe you are right. if you have a visa or permit for 12 months or more in a country other than the one you are from, then you can ask to use the visa office specific for that country. that being said, i'm not sure if you can request ottawa because you are working in canada. i think that's why people submit INLAND applications, not outland through ottawa. also, keep in mind, just because us citizen applications are moving quickly in ottawa, that doesn't mean all applications in ottawa are seeing the same speed. we know that applicants who are applying through the us who are on work visas or green cards are not getting processed as quickly and are getting requests for interviews, which are in la. i'm not sure how it works for those with applications in ottawa who are not from the us. it seems their applications get sent there without them requesting it. there's really nothing stopping you from trying and seeing what happens.

Morning everyone! Quick question - my hubby is landing tomorrow and I'm in the US helping organizing what goods he's bringing with him. While most things are easy to list, especially as he is not bringing much, is it permissible to do a "knick-knacks" category with the few remaining goods that don't follow under the other categories? Or should I list them all separately? Thanks! :)

It is fine to make group categories and list it under it. Like "clothes" or "tools" or even "misc gadgets".

really the only stuff CBSA will pay attention to is expensive stuff. That stuff should be listed separately (like "50-in LCD TV" or "home stereo system")

My husband just wrote things like "box of clothes" and "box of comic books" on his B4 form.

Thanks both keesio and MizAngel. Also, we have to fill out another B4 form for goods to follow, right? There isn't a separate form? He doesn't have much, so if we don't utilize all the spaces, we don't need to fill a B4A, correct? Thanks a ton.

Yes. A separate B4 form marked "Goods to Follow". If you can fit it on a B4 form, you don't need a continuation (B4A) form.

Make sure you bring TWO copies of each list (one for CBSA, one for you).

Depending on where you land, you don't necessarily need two copies. We only brought one copy and the CBSA made their own photocopy for themselves from our one copy.

I feel like I have developed a companionship with this long waiting arch enemy. When this is all done, I'm sure I'll miss him.

Haha, I know what you mean dozel. I almost won't know what to do with myself once it's done! Check the forums, check email, check the processing times, I have a whole routine that'll be disrupted! :p
