Happy to add you, and glad Ottawa isn't (completely) on spring break! Hopefully your police certificate won't take too long.

Computergeek, most of what I've read has indicated that you shouldn't leave Canada until you receive your permanent residency card, but maybe she'll have it already because we're in the US? We'll also have to balance this, if possible, because she could have to pay out-of-country rates on her fall semester here. I'm hoping that's only if she lands and not for having a card.
I traveled three times after landing and before my PR card showed up. I never had a problem. The real issue is with the airlines (commercial carriers) because THEY insist you have a passport and if they think you are a PR, they insist you show your PR card. CBSA doesn't need your PR card to determine that you are a PR. The airlines don't have that latitude.

I'm wondering if her school would accept the COPR, at least long enough for her to get the PR card (which seems to be showing up in about 40 days right now - it took more than 3 months for me to get mine.)

Congratulations :D I can't wait to receive my police certificate from Australia as it is the only thing holding us back right now. Luckily Australia isn't huge and they process them in 15 days. Hopefully be joining your ranks within the next two months. ;D

Hello,
Quick question... My husband is in the states right now and with our application we sent a police certificate from the USA, but there was a period that after turning 18 he lived 2 years in Mexico before moving to the US. I am thinking he will probably need a police certificate from Mexico. From reading the CIC website it says we do not need to provide it until the visa office asks for it... can we still send/get it before they ask?? I just don't want something like this to delay our application.

You will! We were a bit unfortunate. I have seen a lot of people now at the PPR/COPR stage that sent in their applications 4 or 5 months AFTER us. About 2.5 months after we handed in our application, we got the WHOLE thing back with a piece of paper that said "You missed a signature on Page X".

That was it. One signature.

We sent it back immediately and had to start in the queue all over again!

Learn from my mistake I just pointed out above. He will need that certificate. I probably set my landing back about a month because I didn't have a police certificate that I questioned was necessary. They're always necessary if you were there for six months after the age of 18.

Too funny about the Yellow Rose, Rattles, I didn't dream that anyone from Austin was on the forum, lol. Actually, long, LONG ago, I placed in a legs contest during the hot pants era in the nightclub (not topless, I'll assert) that used to be in the Yellow Rose building! Thanks for the website. My husband just returned to Canada yesterday from probably his last vacation here for a very long time, as I'm hoping he'll just return long enough to help me move August-ish, and he's really worrying about the Mexican food!

Thanks, Ivan and Computergeek for your responses. I'm still concerned because she can't land and get back by land easily across the border when I'm in Texas! I really wish she'd just come with me, but she really wants to do this, and we're trying to accomodate it, if possible.

Rattles, had you submitted an Australian clearance with your application and it expired or did you never submit one at all before this?

I'm wondering now that I had to renew my medical if I should preemptively order new police clearances. I haven't been to those countries since the last certificates were issued so I doubt that would be necessary but you never know what's required. Also, one would assume they would have said "new medicals, new police clearances while you're at it" but again, you never know.

She can land by flying into an airport in Canada and then turn back around by plane to the US as she is a US citizen. A landed PR can leave Canada right away by any means necessary, even easier when from the US. There is no requirement for her to stay in Canada at all (as long as she comes back on time to fulfill her residency obligation so her PR remains valid). The issue of an address in Canada remains if you guys don't have an address yet in Canada and that she, as a dependent, cannot land before the main applicant (though she can land afterwards but no later than the validity of her COPR). Upon landing, she will need an address for her PR card to arrive, but she can always defer the mailing of it and order one later on (though to re-enter Canada she will need a document stating she is a PR - you cannot use the COPR to re-enter later).

No, I didn't submit my Australian clearance because of my situation. I was there as a visitor and found employment then left for a month and then returned. All in all I was there nine months and figured I was never there as a resident for six months. I was wrong.

Hi guys, I'm hoping that someone can help me with this. So we filed our application using an Immigration consultant because although we did our research we wanted help from someone with a little more experience in order to avoid any problems. Since we filed in July, all the correspondence comes through the immigration consultant much like how an immigration lawyer works. My question is, I want to follow up by sending CIC an email asking where our COPR is but I don't know if they will respond or if I would need my consultant to email them. I just figured it would be easier if I just emailed them instead of having to wait to hear from the consultant. Does anyone know if they would talk to me? I figure they would have to since its my money and I am the sponsor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I think you can contact OPP-Ottawa by replying their request for passport email. Although I never personally emailed them, I saw people receive replies from them sometimes. BTW, have you seen "decision made" in your ecas?
