I'll try to be an optimist:

For the first time ever, ECAS is being updated at the same speed as applications are being processed.

Okay, opinions, people!...

With this strike going on, what are the chances that I'll just be turned away at the border if I go up to visit my husband at the end of the summer?
Things are really bad here at home and frankly, I don't know how much longer I can manage NOT seeing my husband...
For a US citizen, I think the likelihood of being turned away is pretty low. Very much worth the risk of trying!

I just went north from the US last month again, and they hardly looked at me this time. My 22-year old, who is immigrating with me and was making her first trip, seemed to gather no attention, either. I would assume that it would be business, as usual, on that front. I'm guessing that they can see in their records (and I've told them at the border) that I've applied outland and plan to return to the States, and I've traveled multiple times. I've never been asked for return flight info, but I'm sure that's some good backup. I get more scrutiny coming home, go figure.

That was meant as a joke about the strike, but congrats anyhow!

Well, after the comments about ECAS, I'm a little more concerned. I received my PPR on June 7th, and ECAS still shows "application received". :(

Wow, joke FAIL. The joke was, if visa officers are striking, applications aren't being processed and ECAS isn't being updated, so same rate of "speed."

Don't worry, ECAS is as unreliable as it was before.

Ohhhhhhh....duh. :) I'm slow, finally got the comment. I just found an email address and sent a request, and my husband will try to call, as supposedly I can't if I'm not living there. It never hurts to ask...

My attorney told me that things haven't changed much and that things are still getting processed mainly in normal times...

I swear, I would NOT recommend this firm to my worst enemy!

He lives with me only. I am worried about the time delay in his PR processing, as I cannot get the health card and use the health system until then. Till that time i need to spend for his insurance from my own pocket. That is the reason, i am following up on the timelines.
The only province that I know refuses to cover dependents in this fashion is Ontario. If you are in any other province, he would normally be covered as your dependent as long as he is living with you in Canada, though it can take a bit of digging and arguing to convince them to extend coverage.

I'm also curious - is he here on a TRP, or did they allow him in without paperwork on his US passport? Technically, they should have refused to allow him into Canada if they didn't think he'd leave (and it sounds like he's not going to do so). I'm asking because you have a better chance of arguing for health care with a TRP - even in Ontario - depending upon how it is coded. But even so, you should be able to purchase temporary coverage for him while you are waiting.

Good luck!

14 weeks since Ottawa received our passport copies and the docs the VO wanted (photos - because they Mississauga lost them, CSQs - because Ottawa claims never to have received them, and more documentation of my (sponsor's) intent to move to Canada...), so ordering notes again. Ugh.
We are in a similar situation as you. I received PPR on February 8th along with a request for FBI clearance. They claimed I used a third party to get my background check which I did not. I emailed them back letting them know and stating I spoke to someone at the FBI that morning that said it does show in their system that they were the ones who sent out my background check back in June of 2012. When I asked if I should still proceed with getting another one I was told to hold off and give them a few days to check what's going on. Good thing I didn't hold off as I never heard back from them.

I sent in my background check and passport photos and the office received it on March 22nd. We have heard nothing since. Both my husband and I have tried following up via email and had no success. Finally a couple weeks ago my husband contacted his MP. The MP was awesome and responded so quickly. They asked for our Canada Post tracking number and CIC confirmed they haven't gotten to our file yet. Now I just heard about this strike. How frustrating. I bet our applications are in the same pile. Ha. Hope they get to ours soon. We sent in our application July 2012.

Lol all this time I thought PMM was a lady who wore glasses and a suit...add a bun to her hair.

It's comforting to know they are different unions.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had the same VO - I'm sorry you're in a similar spot!
