congrats on your PPR! I'm a bit late to the thread since i have limited internet access where I am. I'm excited though since my application is less than a week apart from yours! (not that it means anything with the CIC...)

I had no idea about the strike since I was last on the computer on the 6/5/13 and i do hope it doesnt affect apps too harshly. my wife is struggling with our separation as am I and many others in their respective situations. :(

Gotcha, my husband and I were melting down last week from the stress, it's so hard. I have to move from my condo at the end of July and can't announce my retirement until I have my COPR in hand, so I'm being squeezed again, but we're so grateful for the decision. Praying that Ottawa gets a move on with the rest of December!

After taking a closer look at the Ottawa spreadsheet I can see that applications are not necessarily processed in order of date. Some people get their PPR sometimes months before others. I guess there's no telling when our applications will hit the desk. After emailing CPP Ottawa on the status of my application, they said that it was "in process." Ecas still indicates appication recieved in dec under PR. I wish they gave me some sort of date when they began processing it. What does "in process" mean?

As far as I know, "In Process" means they finally got to your application and started looking at it. It actually is a big step since it seems like the longest wait by far is for them to get to the application.

It's a tough decision for me, too. I found out this information from the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch): http://www.cba.org/BC/public_media/family/161.aspx. It's a pain to go through a legal name change for a hyphenated surname, but I still may do it.
Yeah I am still thinking about it :) This link is helpful thanks.
If I change my name only to my married name can do I have to leave my passport and license with my legal name (maiden)?

So, my MP's assistant called me back this morning, as promised, and let me know what he found out, which was basically what was in our GCMS notes. He said the MPs really can't "put the screws to CIC" (his words) until after the published processing time has passed (12 months or so), and that lately Ottawa has been asking for passports earlier and earlier, meaning COPRs are taking longer after PPR. He complained about the closure of Buffalo, said that Ottawa was overloaded, and said he hopes in the next election his party can come to power to clean up the mess made by the "current government." I imagine MPs spend a lot of time on inquiries like ours... So, none of that is really news or surprising.

On the plus side, he did offer to help find out about how to register our kids for school in September if we haven't yet received our COPRs by then, which is really probably above and beyond the call of duty, since schools seem to be mostly a provincial matter. But he seemed genuinely interested in helping and actually curious about what the answer might be for us, since I've already been approved as sponsor and the wife and kids are visa-exempt and already have their CSQs. I was encouraged by his willingness to look into this for us. Hopefully it will be a moot point by then, but since it's already been 99 days since PPR, all bets are off!

Ivan, that's nice of him to at least try to help you. I don't know how you do it. Worries me that my lease is up next month, and I can see telling my company, "I'm retiring tomorrow"!

I would say your chances are good that you'll get it within a couple of weeks, since Ottawa didn't ask you for anything other than your passport copies. They asked for a bunch of stuff from us (photos - because they lost our first $et, CSQs - because they claim never to have received them from Quebec, and more proof of my intent to move to Canada - because I didn't have much proof an entire year before our planned move - duh!), which explains some of the delay. On the other hand, our GCMS notes show that our VO logged all of this stuff into our file on March 21, so most of the delay is on the VO.

The MP's assistant called back and he had inquired about registering our kids for school. He gave us the name and telephone number of the person to talk to at the school board about registering our kids, and said that the CSQs will likely be sufficient to get them registered (in addition to the other normal stuff like a utility bill in our name). Other than interim health insurance, which we can buy, this pretty much takes care of our moving complications (if we don't get the PR before school).

Hats off for service like this. Hats back on for CIC...

Congrats!

I decided to email them, to see if they'd tell me anything, and they got back saying:

Your application is in process in Ottawa. No further action is required by you at this time.
An immigration officer will be in contact with you if any further correspondence is needed.
We thank you for your patience and for keeping your correspondence to a minimum.
