Yes I am in Ontario, from what I understand the rules are a little different. My SIN still has my maiden name on it, as does my passport (Which will change when I renew it in 2015). Seems weird that BC requires legal name change for hyphenated! I am also in BC, so I looked into this when I got married. I wanted to change my name to Maiden-Married but hyphenating your last name in BC requires a legal name change. If you want to continue using your maiden name or if you want to assume your husband's name, neither of these options require a legal name change. But if you want a hyphenated last name, you do have to have a legal name change.
