Hello Guys,
I am here but have been following our islamabad threads for months now. I am in the process of preparing my application package for my husband.
I have a few questions, they might sound stupid but honestly I had no other choice.

welcome :) keep a copy of everything you send... so basically think of making two files one to send to cic-m and other to keep for yourself... read on you will see why...

first of all the region specific forms is in adobe and I cant really convert it in to word so is it okay if i fill it by hand? I need more space for his education and personal history so should I just get a lined sheet write my name question number and just copy make the columns and just fill it? (I filled my other documents online not by hand)

region specific forms you will have to hand fill neatly... and for questions that you need to elaborate or need extra space you can simply type that out, just write down on top what form it is in addition to, and what question and what part of that question you are answering... attach it directly at the end of the respective form... thats all... couple of the region specific forms are repeating a couple of imm forms... so keep an eye for that and save time :D

How did you guys filled the column where they ask us to write in our native language? just by hand after printing it off?

correct

I am also confused about what documents do I have to send on my behalf in the region specific forms it says:

Original birth certificates for yourself ...... including your spouse so I am supposed to send mine?

Certified copies of CNIC its just for my husband, right?

birth certificate of your husband, and cnic copies are of your husand also his passport, for yourself, your canadian passport and or certificate if required for your identification, print out the document checklist that comes with the imm forms, and simply follow it by chronological order, first set is ur forms/info, 2nd is ur husbands, then its other stuff one by one (marriage certificate, hubby's id's, pcc, medical, etc) until u get to the region specific kit, there you simply fill those forms and what ever is required within it, and attach that aswell... at the end is your communication and other evidence for your case... make nice neat sections, and upfront before anything is ur letter to them, narrating your marriage etc and what you are sending etc, and anything else to help understand your marriage... dont go beyond 2-3 pages...

the sponsor DOESNT send his/her educational documents, right? but I have to send my passport showing my passport # and all.

correct, you dont send ur educational stuff, thats only needed for your husband... check the section on the forms, or the document checklist if it requires you to send a copy of urs, even if it doesnt, no harm done if u do send in urs...

what does it mean by certified copies of the photos and information of your valid and old passport? My husband needs to get

certified means you didnt tamper with the documents or fake them, so basically say your husband makes a copy of his passport or cnic card, he can go to a officer of 17th tarmeem (level) or any notary republic and must get them to approve those copies to be authentic... you have to send originals stamped/signed barring passport and cnic of everything (you send in the original copies of passport and cnic) ... later on you will be requested for passport, and then and only then you send in the original passport (ur hubby's that is)... and send it with return fare paid... or expect major delays coz chc-isl is cheap...

his passport certified? if yes, from where?

yes, read above, ur husband can go to a bookstore or photocopy lab and ask them about his regional/city office

Its not necessary to get the documents certified or notarized from foreign affair though, right?

not too sure about foreign affair... notarized is the best option though

Is it necessary to write behind the 9 photos that "this is to certify that..."?

get 12-15 atleast, and send in 12, get the photo lab to stamp them on the back with the date and signature

since the police certificate is original uske sath toh kuch nahi karna na?

it has to be the original copy, and u will need a passport size photo for this

Help is really appreciated, My questions are a little bit from everywhere. Its just that these little details have been annoying me so I thought this is the best place to ask!
Thanks ..
my answers are above in bold...

your husband will have to do medical too, have him get a date for that, and for the police character certificate (pcc), as close to your submission date of the package... the pcc may take some time, so go for it a week or two in advance or so, dont get them done months before you submit the file, as that means they will expire faster... especially the pcc, which is only good for a 12 months period from issuance...

i hope i answered all your questions, if you still have any ask away, or want me to elaborate any further on any i already did just ask away, remember make your file neat and nice and presentable, make your letter such that its easy to understand what's going on and how your relation came to be, etc... easier to go through the file the better chances of a faster processing, the uglier or out of sequence etc the file, no one will touch it... best of luck...

oh yea... dont forget to pay the prpf fees of $1040... you dont have to pay it upfront, but it is best to do so, or expect delays because of it later on... rukhsati is a must it seems now a days, so better do something about that... you will be asked to go perform it if not done already... photos send upto 50-60 quality photos that show 2 of you with as many relatives and friends in different places etc as possible... and keep the photos (same with other evidence) in a chronological order too respectively... dont just have the photos and shuffle them and stash in an envelope... basically if i am a visa officer i want to see a movie of your relationship as i go through the photos... ohhh this is when they met, ahhh this was their engagement, hmmm a surprise visit... wow married... nice a vacation trip... etc etc... when u send the file through canada post, ask for a signature request, this way you will be able to track and see what date they got it... other wise you will be stressed and sweating on whether they have it or not...

again best of luck :D

Hello Sis, It is totally depends on you if you want to fill your application by hand or online. I think by hand you sometimes forget to provide enough information about the applicant and online I think it is more professional, neatly and easy to read and understand.

1. You don't need to send your Birth Certificate just send your husband's Birth Certificate bcoz he is an applicant not you.

2. Again not you your Husband CNIC Original copy and if it is not in English send its translation with the original copy and it must be notarized from the Notary Public and Translation must be done form the Profession Certified Translator.

3. The Sponsor does not need to send his or her Educational Documents and It's only required form the person who is being Sponsored to Canada. Send your Husband's Original and Certified All Educational Documents. And you as a Sponsor need to send your Canadian Passport Photo Information Page photocopy or a Permanent Residence Card Photocopy and If you came back after your marriage your Passport should have Entry and Exit Stamps when your entered and left in Pakistan. Send a photo copy of your Entry And Exit Stamps both pages, boarding passes and travel itinerary

4. Certified Copies of the photos and information of your valid and old passport means You husband needs to get Notarized from the Notary Public and Valid and old Passport if your husband has more than 1 passport, he has to provide the information of those Passport.

5. You don't need to write anything on the back of those 9 Immigration Photos and Immigration photos are not the same as Passport size.

6. Just send them an original Police Certificate of your husband.

I hope It would help you and Good Luck with the Process!

Thank you for your elaborated reply. Really cleared a lot of things. and it just feels like we like to make things hard for ourselves when their directions are pretty straight forward but some of them are confusing.

I have been reading the document check list but it just throws me off sometimes. I am working and going to university here, so on loan. hopefully that wont be a problem.

looks like ill send in my birth certificate since it says there for spouse, ill fill in region form by hand and will do what you said for more information. I will ask him to get his passport and CNIC certified from a 17 level officer. and ask him to ask the photo lab guy to stamp the pics.

I didnt know photo is required for police clearance, gotta read that thing again!

certified means you didnt tamper with the documents or fake them, so basically say your husband makes a copy of his passport or cnic card, he can go to a officer of 17th tarmeem (level) or any notary republic and must get them to approve those copies to be authentic... you have to send originals stamped/signed barring passport and cnic of everything (you send in the original copies of passport and cnic) ... later on you will be requested for passport, and then and only then you send in the original passport (ur hubby's that is)... and send it with return fare paid... or expect major delays coz chc-isl is cheap...

you just lost me with this paragraph .. all you are saying is photocopy the passport and cnic card, go to a 17th level officer and ask him to approve that and i just send that approved photocopies right? because according to my knowledge and what you said in that paragraph they will ask for his passport for visa ( long way to go lol )

Really appreciate your help maybe I was just making everything hard for me.
I have all the boarding passes and pay stubs with me. I have pics of mehndi, barat and valima. I just need that proof of employment.
We are just waiting on his passport to arrive since it got expired. he applied in end of june and still didnt receive it. uske baad police and medical so I thought rather than just waiting I should get working on finishing everything else so that I can send it in asap, its already late anyways.

you dont have to send ur birth certificate, it has to be ur husbands... ur's is not required...

also as Farrukh mentioned above (i forgot to mention this) if any document is in urdu, you need to get it translated and then get it certified by notary republic, or a high level officer...

the document checklist will not say on it that pcc requires a passport size photo... nor will the medical form (i think) says that you require one... but you do for both... 1 for pcc, and i think take 2-3 for medical... and you send in 12 (i know they ask for less, but eventually this is not a bad thing) also keep some extra's on you or him just in case...

ok let me clarify it a bit...

certified explained... if you make a copy of a document at home or any random photo-copying lab, its just a photo copy... but when you take a document and get it done (copied/translated and then signed or stamped) at a notary republic it becomes certified that your document was original and wasnt tampered with, or that it has been translated to its truest sense in English...

for his passport and cnic get them done at the notary republic and have them stamped... for these two you send in the originals of the notary republic copies... but keep xerox of them for yourself...

same for nikah naama if in urdu... they will give you the translated and stamped copy of it... you then send in the original nikah naama in urdu and the notary republic certified copy of it... again do keep xerox of these for yourself...

any other documents that you send (minus your chat logs, phone logs, photos to prove relationship, emails etc) you need to send originals that have been approved or signed by a high level officer, ask your parents or husband about 17th or 18th level/tarmeem officer... they will know and explain to you... these signatures will be on his educational documents, bay form, voter card or list... etc etc...

your travel evidence you just need to send in copies of the entry exit stamped pages... and originals of the tickets/passes...

if you did any shopping, reciepts or gift reciepts dont need to be certified/signed, just send originals, keep copies... hope this helps...

follow the document checklist http://www .cic .gc .ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5491E.pdf its very easy and is broken down in sections... read it slowly, and it tells you what to do and what not to do... some things you wont have to submit like dependents, or representative etc, if you are doing it yourself... hiring a lawyer will not make any impact (speed wise) on your case...

Go in this order... (since you and he are Pakistani send in originals, the document checklist may say photocopy of marriage certificate...for him that is...or documents he is involved in...)

Cover letter (do in end but goes first)
Document checklist (sign it and have him sign it too)...
Sponsor's documents...
1) IMM 1344 signed by you and husband
2) IMM 5481 dont do this if in quebec
3) Do not send IMM5476 if you are not using a third party to fill these on behalf of you
4) IMM5401 (can be done online, very easy, total sum should be $1040 if only sponsoring a spouse - no kids)
Right of Permanent Residence Fee 1 $490.00
Sponsorship application (per application) 1 $75.00
Principal applicant 1 $475.00
Total: $1040.00
5) Do not send IMM 5409 since you are married
6)IMM 5540 signed by you

Applicant
7) IMM 0008
8 ) Do not send if no kids IMM 0008 DEP
9) IMM 5669 - only for him (dont get confused here, its only him coming, not his family) also this form is repeated in the region specific area...
10) IMM5490 - crucial one, explain your relationship :)
11) IMM5406 - this one you need to detail about his parents and siblings
12) dont need to do IMM 5476 if not using third party...

Supporting documents...
Sponsor:
13) Send in a copy of your canadian citizenship card or PR card or landing imm 1000 or canadian passport pages showing passport # date of issue and expiration, photo etc... only one of these... normal xerox is fine...
14) Original Nikah Naama, (along with notarized translation copy if nikah naama in urdu)...
15) Not Applicable
16) Not Applicable
17) option C printout, do this asap... 18009598281 its free
18) Proof of employment, Job Letter detailing period of employment, salary/wage, and regular hours per week.
19) NOT APPLICABLE... but to back up 18 send in some recent pay stubs...
20) Not Applicable... I think you are in Canada
21) Not Applicable

Sponsored Person + (Region specific guide)
22) CNIC Card and passport certified copies
23) Not Applicable if you dont have kids
24) Travel documents and passports - IF he has travelled then fill this out
25) this is the evidence, emails, pictures, chat, skype, phone logs, etc... (keep it in the end)...
26) Police character certificate (take a passport sized photo)
27) Medical examination copy they give him back (he must take a couple of passport sized photos along with the form filled by hand or electronically) there are two types out there, print and fill out both and take them both just to kill the confusion...

now put in your region specific documents here... followed by the evidence and any other material you wana send...

and baam that should be the package in a nice neat order...

MAKE SURE TO SIGN THE DOCUMENTS THAT NEED SIGNATURES, COMMON MISTAKE PPL MAKE IS FORGETTING SIGNATURES..

you are welcome, and #19 is explained above as well... if you send Option C, you dont need to do #19... given you had worked and filed taxes for last year... patiently go through it, it takes time... go over a good 3-4 times of all documents, have someone proofcheck for common silly mistakes... dont forget signatures, a forgotten file they can ask you to send again, but if you forget to sign a document, they will send back the application package...
