I don't want to be mean but I guess you are the only one who is happy about this. Canada Post striking would mean mail will not be delivered, which means longer waiting time for everyone to hear from CIC because they only use Canada Post to send correspondence.

CIC has started "sticking it to the man" and is using email for some correspondence. Our AOR came by email and we're hoping the PPR does too (and soon)...

That's great for you doctorkb but CIC uses e-mail for outland correspondence like yours. They still use good old Canada Post for inland applications.

sadly they are going on strike from midnight on thursday i think.
my wife is gutted as we really can't afford to go on strike
but they can't afford not to strike
it's not about pay
it's about their pension, sick pay etc
so i'm sad
we've got enough stress without added financial stress

anyways
i really hope that we can all find other means to get our correspondence sorted and that it won't delay us all any further

...And they're not even consistent with when they do use email. Some outlanders get everything by email, some get everything by snail mail, some even get a mix. It doesn't seem to even be dependent solely on visa office; some Buffalo people get their PPR by mail, some by email. No consistency. I got my AOR by email, and the IA I was supposed to have gotten was supposedly sent by snail mail.

So, yes, this will affect everyone.

I went into canada Post website and www.cupw.ca (trade unions website) and it seems that a strike will be very likely. they haven't reached an agreement yet and it seems that for now they will not reach it. Apparently only money and pension checks will be delivered. That sucks to say the least!!!! Let's hope it doesn't happen or if it does they will eventually reach an agreement soon

my dad works for Canada post and is also a vp at his local cupw. they havent decided whether it is going to be a rolling strike (which means mail will still be delivered it will just take longer) or a full on strike. but they are still negotiating so if i find out anything else i will post it

Canada Post workers in Winnipeg MB began their rotating work stoppage as part of the strike on Thursday midnight while their colleagues in Hamilton ON will do that over the weekend.

Luckily so far the strike hasn't been total. So far only winnipeg and then hamilton ontario have been on strike, so it is actually not a real big strike. i went to the post office today (here in eastern quebec) and they are still receiving letters everyday as usual. of course situation may change and become a real big strike. Hope not.

Also, they do mention a fair bit more when call the CIC number at 1-888-242-2100. I think they are really just trying to prepare everyone as much as possible for the worst. Still no word on how it will effect the processing and printing of PR cards. And whether they will just wait to send those out after the strike.

Inlandappl: I certainly hope the strike remains somewhat small and they can resolve this quickly.

They are now having 24-hour strikes for both Victoria, B.C. and Moncton, N.B.

Here is what they have to say:

Strike / Negotiations Alert

Tonight at 11:30 p.m. EDT, postal service in Montreal will resume. At midnight local time, CUPW will commence a 24-hour strike action in Victoria, B.C. and Moncton, N.B."

Air Canada who is the carrier for Canada Post is set to go on strike Tuesday June14!

Strike was held in St. John's today too but only for about 1 and a half hours. Lol.
I love living here.
