I would like everyone to focus on this :

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/updates/2015/2015-12-01.asp

Applicants may now submit their bridging open work permit (BOWP) at the same time as their application for permanent residence. Once the completeness check has been performed, the application for a BOWP will be processed. BOWP applications received before the completeness checks have been performed will be held until they are ready to be processed.

You will be in Implied statut until they start processing it. Your application won't be rejected if your positive eligibility decision hasn't been made :D

So could this be the reason they are taking so long to process BOWP? Are they basically holding on to them until people have passed the eligibility?

My BF is a PNP nominee and his current WP expires in February. He got his AOR letter in July but hasn't had a medical request or any other request yet. A year ago the AOR would have been enough but not now. He is going to request his GCMS notes but may not get them before he needs to apply for his WP. It seems like the time line for inland PNP applications is about 15 months so we are expecting him to have PR by July. We have no way of knowing if his GCMS has been set to "passed".

The big problem for us is the he is PNP nominee. His nomination is based on him having a job in Manitoba and if he applies for the BOWP and is denied he will have to quit his job that day. If he leaves his Job he could loose his PNP nomination and therefor his PR application could be rejected. We would then have to start over another rout. We have been living together and are now considered common law so I could sponsor him. But, that would mean going through a whole application process all over when we are sooooo close to the end of this one. I could come down to a month away from getting PR and it could all be lost.

We figure if he applies for the BOWP in early January then he should at least have until May before he gets a decision on his BOWP and he would be on implied status until then. If we are lucky he could get PR before then (but we won't hold our breath) or maybe at least his application will be set at "passed" by the time they start to process his BOWP. So as long as they look at the GCMS when they start processing it, not when he submits it then there could be a good chance he would get the BOWP.

I am read earlier in this thread that someone was told you could flagpole for a BOWP. Does anyone know if this is true or not? It would be nice to have the peace of mind just getting the WP at the border. If my BF gets his GCMS notes before his current WP expires and they say "passed"we may drive down to the border and try. He is from a visa exempt country.

I have not applied for GCMS notes at any stage. But like akil said, I am a September applicant, I expect it to be blank, or not started.

Two simple answers to your simple questions.

Answer 1. You do not have to wait for GCMS. Call CIC call center and say exactly what I say here "I am planning on applying for BOWP as my wp expires within 4 months from now. While filling out the online questionnaire it asked me if I have received approval in principal or first stage approval or positive eligibility assessment. It also asks if CIC has informed you regarding the approval. Also while reading the requirements for BOWP on CIC websiteit came to my attention that for a BOWP my eligibility has to be passed. It would be appreciated if you can help me check that so that I may apply for my BOWP." They would not say no to you. Also tell them about your PR application timeline. Once they inform you that yes you have passed the eligibility, note down the agent's name and agent id and date/time of call to mention on the letter of explanation for BOWP.

Answer 2. You can NOT apply for BOWP at the border. It is stated on their website. You can apply for T13 closed work permit at the border though but for that you require offer of employment letter (Submitted online by employer) and employer compliance fees paid by employer. What you can do is if you are planning a trip outsite of Canada and on your way back you can request the officer to kindly see if he can give an extension to your work permit. DO NOT go to the border with less than 30 days remaining on your current WP.

Hope this all helps.

Hi guys, good news for people applied BOWP and eligibility not started yet.
I am Sep 2014 applicant, and I applied for BOWP in aug 2015 online, and it shows Application/profile status Closed & Final decision: This application has been approved.
Obviously, my eligiblity has not started yet. So the AOR is good enough.
I guess I just need to wait for the BOWP by mail. I was so nervous while waiting for BOWP.

On what date did you apply for BOWP and when did your status change to approved ?
