Man Royal Assent is given by the Governor General of Canada (The Queen Representative in Canada) .. it is more like an honoury position.

He doesn't have an actual power .. the Parliament do whatever they want ... except in very rare circumstances he can stop Bills
Thank you for the response +1 for you! You deserve it man :)

Thanks man!

My understanding is with PR applicants, they can do it but not with Citizens applicants... This is based on the similar citizenship Bill in the past ... the date would be sometimes in the future but with current government, I really don't know what to expect

USA is not a democracy, it's a republic :)

Constitutionally limited representative democratic republic. Although the election of the President has a slight twist to it that leaves some room for debate as there is the electoral college. Congressional representatives do not use the electoral college.

There are many "In Process" applications open since 2012.
With this new law in place now, which gives authority for minister/his delegate to finalize the applications, will the CJs retained for the currently "In Process" applications, or will the new process of ministry finalizing citizenship applications come in force.
I am asking this because if govt goes with the "Cut Off" date formula, then they will have to maintain parallel (two) processes of granting citizenship till all the applications falling before cut-off are completed, which will be an expensive affair for govt.
There seems to be a great likelihood of changing all the processing to new process in interest of govt expenditure.
Any thoughts?

5.0 (3), not 5.1(3)

3(7) refers to the Lost Canadians

I never said 5.0 (3), I said 5. (1) in Citizenship Act before C-24 coming into force:

5. (1) The Minister shall grant citizenship to any person who
(a) makes application for citizenship;
(b) is eighteen years of age or over;
(c) is a permanent resident within the meaning of subsection 2(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and has, within the four years immediately preceding the date of his or her application, accumulated at least three years of residence in Canada calculated in the following manner:
(i) for every day during which the person was resident in Canada before his lawful admission to Canada for permanent residence the person shall be deemed to have accumulated one-half of a day of residence, and
(ii) for every day during which the person was resident in Canada after his lawful admission to Canada for permanent residence the person shall be deemed to have accumulated one day of residence;
(d) has an adequate knowledge of one of the official languages of Canada;
(e) has an adequate knowledge of Canada and of the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship; and
(f) is not under a removal order and is not the subject of a declaration by the Governor in Council made pursuant to section 20.

Every one here was applying under this.

Again, none of those countries surrounding the "Persian" Gulf are actually persian, except for Iran. Last Time I checked, it was international waters (no explicit reason for the "Persian" name). It is controversially referred to as Persian Gulf. Some Arab countries recognize it as the "Arabian" Gulf (seeing how the majority of countries surrounding it are Arab). They don't speak Farsi.

So again, it's status as "Persian" is debatable.

Lets stop all this Arab and Persian stories.

Lets keep track of the very important "Cut off Date" :-X
