Applications processed in Pretoria

If I may ask, How long does it take to say 'in process' on you ecas? Mine hasn't change from "We received your application for permanent residence on October 20, 2011". I am getting a little bit worried that they haven't started working on it.

It didn't take long,a couple of weeks, but don't rely on ecas too much. Sometimes it just isn't updated regularly, they might be working on your file now even though ecas doesn't show it.
But in my case, it was let's say 98% correct on the updates. But don't get stressed, Pretoria seems to be very fast and efficient these days lol

Thanks for the advice, She works as a gas station attendant and has two children in school in South Africa as well as owns her own house.... I am wondering about the letter of employment.... does it have to state that she is employed by the employer or does it have to state that she is granted a leave of absence to go visit Canada?

Yes it has to state that she works there, and they are granting a period of holidays. If she ends up staying in Canada with you, well let's call it a "change" of plans.
She can provide also a copy of the ownership of her house,as "proof" or strong ties to SA. And she can also do a cover letter, explaining all that, saying that she has kids at school, a job, that she wants only to go on holidays..

Well the embassy called yesterday saying the passport is ready for collection, so I arranged with DHL for that, arriving on monday! yaaaaaaayyyyyyy

Yeah, the embassy called on Friday as well. DHL will hopefully deliver on Monday as well.

Yeah the online status just confirms what the embassy communicates to you. I don't think you'll see an update on ecas without the embassy contacting you first.

We just booked our tickets to Toronto. We'll be leaving on 27 May, we now have so much to do to sell as much as we can and organise and pack.
I will also start to look for jobs in Toronto area, well somewhere between there and London Ontario.

Josephs, my application was received by Pretoria on July 27th, I did my medical on September 28th, and Pretoria started processing my case on October 11th (also changed the status to Processing).
I know it seems like a long time, I think they wait till you send all your info, medical, police clearances and any other missing stuff. But even with them only starting in October, my PR is issued in Feb, which is not bad at all.

Got my passport this morning via DHL. yaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy

The sent back our photos also, and some letter explaining how to help settle in Canada etc. Also a "Confirmation of Permanent Residence" that I have to show at the airport.

Congrats!!! I am so happy for you! Please pray for me as I am getting a little bit impatient lol. Hopefully we can meet you someday soon! Thank you for all your help on this forum, I really appreciate it. I personally will miss you and hopefully some new people would join the group.
