This is probably a good point. Two of my friends used the same letter template as I did for their CEC applications last year (albeit they included their T4 and T4A forms as well), and they already landed. It does look like that they're treating similar kind of reference letters similarly.
Sure they are!

I guess they are not a must have, however any supporting evidence that you can provide will help. The adviser just said if you have anything like T4's, contracts etc. put them in the application. My department didn't have contracts so I didn't include them, I just added my tax slips. I don't think my letter is detailed enough either, I will just wait and see. My professor did add at the bottom of the letter "I assume this information is enough to support his application, please contact me on ***** should you need any further information or details" so we will see if that helps!
You are right about T4 and T4A forms. As I kept mentioning, a representative from Detroit mentioned the following last year when students asked them regarding using TA/RA for PR purposes

Students must provide the T4 (employment income) T4As (Scholarship income) and a detailed letter from their department or advisor detailing that the student has been remunerated for teaching/research conducted, responsibilities of the teaching/research, estimated hours per week the student performs this function, dates for which the remuneration (pay) covers and the dates the student conducted the teaching/research. The amount of financial support (e.g. 37.5 hours per week) should support the amount being paid for that period. For instance, if remuneration was well below the minimum wage the Visa Officer would have concerns.
So I suppose having T4 and T4A is some sort of a proof for incomes, whereas letters from supervisors are proof of job duties and responsibilites.

Give me your thoughts:

I was in the international students's adviser office to certify some copies of documents and was told that:

1. You need to wait a 6 month period after your rejection to be eligible to apply again.

2. RA is not accepted because it is non-taxable.

Do you think there are just rumors?

I have to say that both were incorrect. N_O just got charged on his credit card, and should expect PER in two weeks. A lot of rejected people got PER (and even response from Ottawa) after re-application that was much less than 6 months.

The only thing that vaguely resembles what your adviser said would be if someone misrepresented their applications, then they would be barred for two years from applying. Also, check your rejection letter, at the end, it says that, if you have new information, please submit new application, so it's crazy how he thought that you had to wait for six months.

I really do not think that this is the case. Because they would mention you did not provide T4, then we do not accept this as work experience.
They clearly mentioned something about NOC responsibilities. How could you come with that they want my T4?!!!!!
I included T4s in my application just because my friend who had applied for skilled worker (not PhD stream) was asked to provide them before getting his medical request back in 2010.

This is already the second time for Houra! Hopefully, s/he will make it this time.

Aseberth, would you please add Houra and me to the spreed sheet?
It is indeed my second time. With the new rules, preparing a new application would really suck. Especially preparing the certified degree documents ...

N_O: I don't know why nobody cares about my timeline! I have asked people already 3 times to put my info on the tracker, and eventually I gave up! :))

I am sure about the first one which is incorrect, but the 2nd one has made me a little bit worried.

Do not make it more complicated than it is. If your letter contains the essential information (i.e. hours spent, duties matching the NOC code, period of employment) that will work. My letter for TA was only 2 lines, believe me, it was JUST 2 lines, and the duties were exactly copied and pasted from the NOC site. The officer accepted my TA experience.
...
And, if your letter already contains all the essential information , you will be fine even if your letters is short.
Thanks for sharing your pervious letter Aidina. I hope your application goes smoothly this time.
My letter does include all hours, duties matching the code etc. , I have also included T4/T4A tax slips... but I have a feeling that they always just find something, no matter how complete you think you wrote. I think it is really subjective to the officer that happens to be processing your application.

There's no more info that I could add to my letter, if anything, I would just reword it a little.

At this stage, we can't do anything but keeping our fingers crossed.

Sorry, this forum has been too depressing lately that I missed posts from time to time :( I'll add Houra's info once I get access to my computer. Anyway, Houra, can you summarize your application? I'll add the info to the spreadsheet once I have everything I need for the spreadsheet.

The second one, too, was not right. There was never an explicit mention anywhere that work experience gained during full-time study will not be counted (it's not accepted for CEC, but no such wording exists for FSW). There was never a mention that non-taxable income cannot be accepted. And NOC 4012 is skill level A, so there is no problem here. Also, as I mentioned, I know people who applied under CEC last year (again, this year, CEC can't accept TA/RA anymore), who got their work experience mostly from non-taxable RA, and they already landed, so I think it's fine.

Hi Guys,

What is the difference between GRA (graduate research assistant) and RA(research assistant)? It seems GRA is non-taxable while RA is taxable. Will the CIC treat them differently?
