So far there is no update on the applications received in the Ph.D category. I just hope for those of us applying in Sept the spots are not filled up by then.

My assumption is that all those at various stages of their Ph.Ds would have applied by now. Only those completing their 2nd year will apply, so hopefully there are chances that vacancies will remain by Sept.

This is good news for everyone. It allows them to eliminate the backlog, and to speedup future processing next year. I think people that apply next year will get everything done in 8 months, maybe less, because everything will much more focused in Canada's need. Of course, some people will become ineligible, but it's life..
Or there might be no PhD stream next year. Kenny changes Canadian immigration policy like a girl changes her skirts!

Hi Guys,

For mailing the application to CIO in Sydney, Nova Scotia the Document Checklists states to include 2 self-addressed mailing labels. Does that mean I don't have to include 2, let's say express post self addressed envelope ? Also does that mean I just print out two label sized pieces of paper with my mailing address ?

Just finished working on my application. My photos were taken on December 22 so I guess I need to take them again now. But I guess that's alright. Phew, this is a lot of work.

Thanks,
zedd4x

Hello everybody,
I have a very strange refusal letter. :-[
I have applied to the Federal Skilled Worker program within the PhD stream on June 7th, 2012. I have provided CIC office with the official letter from the University of Toronto that says that I have completed two years towards the completion of my PhD program. My program lasts 8 months each year and thus I have completed two academic years (16 months) towards my PhD degree and stay in good academic standing. The letter contains all necessary information with the name and the contact information of the Director of Student Services.
I would like to get further clarifications on what exactly is missing in my application and why the email of the CIC officer says that
"there is insufficient evidence on file that you have completed at least 2 years of a PhD program delivered by a provincially or territorially recognized private of public post-secondary educational institution located in Canada".
I did not get ANY clarification what was wrong in my application.
Please suggest what I have to do now. CIC refused to give me any additional information. I could not find how to count "2 years". Are they equal 24 month or they equal "2 years of graduate study" (= 16 month in two academic years).

Hi,
I have the same problem in mu university. We are paying tuition for the summer term as a PhD student. So the question is : 2 years means 2 academic years ( 4terms) OR 2 complete calender years ?

Undoubtly it's 2 calender years. Why the question of 4 terms coming? Did they mention "completed 4 terms"?!!!

You lot should be next in line. Based on the spreadsheet, it looks like that Ottawa will get back to applicants 7 months (180 - 200 days) after submissions, except for MapleDream of course, but that could be because he was the earliest applicant here that appealed CIO's decision and got his NER overturned. Ottawa might be checking these 5 adaptability points issues more closely.

The backlog from before feb 2008 has been officially eliminated:

Processing of certain applications made under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program prior to February 27, 2008, is to cease effective June 29, 2012, and fees paid to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) in respect of the affected applications are to be returned to the person who paid them as required by law.
