Thanks a lot for your kind reply for all my questions. It helps a lot. It will take me several days more to finalize my application documents. Since the new release of FSW policy. Is it still a good idea to submit my application as soon as I can?

It seems for me, the sooner the better, so I plan to submit without the degree verification record. My education background is shown in my McGill transcripts. So I believe this can be counted as certain kind of verification of my degree obtained in china. I will apply for the verification just in case they ask for it later. Hope it is fine. Any suggestions regarding this?

I think the best bet is to get your degree verified ASAP and send it along with your application. Otherwise your case may be delayed at the CIC level (They may return your complete package because of the missing verfication documents, which is a must for PRC applicants now), and this may take 2 more months for you to get the package and resend it to CIC from my experience. Good luck.

I agree. Take your time to have a strong application before sending an incomplete one.

Thanks for both of you. I will work on the verification before I submit my application then. Hope it won't take long.

Thanks for answering my question. What if we want to work full-time before graduation? ???

I know a lot of PhDs are just funded for first four years. That means for the fifth year, you have to support yourself.

For Canadian PhD, they can work and register full-time on campus. What about us? Can we also do that?
Yes you can. This is my last tear in the PhD program and I got a job offer from a University starting AUgust 15 2012 (I'll graduate in April 2013). I'll be assistant professor there. The university applied for a labour market opinion which they got and I called the Call centre who told me I could have a regular work permit. I just had to apply online and it should take about 33 days. I applied about 2 weeks ago. Fingers crossed

Thank u so much for your reply. That pretty much solves my question.

I am sure you will get your work permit and PR without any problems.

One more question on this degree verification, if I understand correctly, my degree and graduation certificate for my master are the only two things I need to get verification report for, is it right? Since the original transcripts are required to obtain the transcripts verification, and I only have one original transcripts with me. If the verification of transcripts for my master is not the must-have document, then it will save me some time avoiding asking more transcripts from my university, it normally takes a while and especially I'm in Canada right now.

I would get for both. Also, request a few original of your transcripts, is always good to have extras. I myself got 3 copies of all my translated documents just in case I would need them again one day for some stupid reason. You can however attempt to submit your application with only your masters, but it is more risky.

Please read the newest checklist carefully and do it accordingly. I don't think your transcripts need to be verified as they are usually sealed by the university.
I am not familiar with this as when I submitted my application this was not required if the designated VO was Buffalo. But now they have expanded scope of the rule to all PRC applications who got their highest degree from mainland China regardless the VO.

When you are requesting verification, ask for extra copy of the documents. They are much cheaper than
the first copy and it is good to have an extra backup

Just submitted my application ! Although my letter from my supervisor regarding the RA didn't specify the number of hours I work per week but I didn't want to wait for him to come back from his vacation. Maybe I can send in another letter as an addendum to my application letter or if they ask for more documents regarding the same. Although the letter from the department did mention the number of hours per week a TA is supposed to work. Now its time to wait and see what happens.

Now they are pissing me off. Today I got a letter from Ottawa asking for account history for my chequing accounts and they haven't said for how long (6 month account history, one year, ...).
If you wanted account history for chequing account, you should have asked three weeks ago when you asked for history of saving accounts .

Just give them all the data they need for the last year. Chequing and savings.

I also need to verify my master's degree according to the new requirements and it takes time. But I am afraid not including this document may greatly affect the application.
