sb414 If you are still online, I have a question regarding the local translators. I talked to one and he said he not only does he do the translations but he also is a notary public. I assume that the translator needs someone else to witness his signature and not himself. Am I correct? I am in Santiago and if you or anyone can recommend anyone, I'd appreciate it.

We Felix Mercado Vasquez, a lawyer and legal translator in Puerto Plata on Avenida Colon. He did the translations for marriage as well as all the translating for immigration. He was fast and easy. He charged 800 pesos per document in 2012. I recommend him if you don't find someone to use in Santiago.

If you'd like his email and contact information, let me know.

Thank you Tink..I will let you know after I talk to the translator in Santiago. It's no problem though if I have to travel to Puerto Plata either. The more options available the better.

Thought some of you may find this interesting....

A friend of mine and her husband applied in November 2014. They received an email today stating they WOULD require an interview, but the date was unknown as immigration hadn't settled a date yet. Basically it just said it would happen sometime in August. A little vague. I just thought it was interesting as it demonstrates the process of immigration interviews happening now that Mexico is processing application instead of Dominican Republic. Also shows some progress I suppose. I imagine we will still be a long ways away as we didn't apply till March....sigh....let the waiting continue!

It is really nice to hear that Mexico is really moving things along.
Good luck to your friend and her husband! August is just around the corner

This is very interesting indeed! Do you happen to know where the interview will be held? Santo Domingo? I'm wondering how the 2 Visa Offices plan on coordinating these types of situations. Also, while it's great to see progress, I would feel so frustrated if they told us an interview would be needed but then didn't provide us with a date! Maybe that's just the "control freak" in me though!!

I kind felt the same. I thought it was kind of unprofessional of the agency to not yet have a date. August is next month and they haven't nailed down a date yet? I think that's silly. I am also trying to figure out how they decide if folks require interviews. Like is it based on length of relationship? evidence you send? WHAT?! I feel like our package with so thorough and detailed I'll be angry if they want an interview to be honest. I guess we will see in the next few months.

I have found that Mexico is good at keeping you updated. Since the end of May, they have emailed us 3 times just acknowledging they have our file, and are working in order of dates.
I think I might be annoyed if they sent me an email saying they want an interview but no date as of yet, but I think it is nice that they informed your friend that there will be one, at least she knows they have been working on her file! Hopefully, they let her know more information soon.

I'm also curious what makes them request interviews. I know they look at the age of the couple, how long they have known each other, how soon after they met did they get married, etc.

They look at ALL that stuff in determining whether they want to conduct an interview of the applicant (length of relationship, how you met each other, number of visits, quality of proof of communication/pictures you submitted). You have to convince the visa officer that your relationship is genuine/bonafide! If the visa officer has any doubts that the relationship isn't genuine, they will request an interview. We pretty much expected the interview in our case because my husband was previously married, so fortunately it wasn't a surprise when they contacted us! It definitely adds extra stress if there is an interview, but if there's nothing to hide and your spouse is honest in the interview, there's nothing to worry about :)

The same thing would happen for interviews when Dominicans were processed through the Embassy in Haiti, before the earthquake in 2010. They will organize those who require interviews all within a few days of each other and a visa officer (or a few) from the Mexican office will come to Santo Domingo for all required interviews. They may schedule 5+ interviews back to back in a day, for one officer, so that they can get them all done and return to Mexico to continue processing files quickly. It's the same thing they did when processing happened in Haiti.

did you send in your application?

Feeling a little glum as I'm fairly certain that NO 2015 applicants have heard ANYTHING!! Immigration is still working on late 2014 applicants and feels so slow. I just hate the not knowing. I'm trying to plan my winter vacation, but should I even bother if magically my husband will be approved. Bah.. so annoying!
Sorry, I just need to vent.
