It sounds like they copy pasted the wrong info in the e-mail. Just reply to them and they will probably confirm it is a mistake.

It sounds like you sponsored him? If you guys are separated, why are you letting the application run anyway? It's a program to allow loved ones to be together, not to just bring foreigners into the country.

Apply for extension as late as possible so you can ride the "Implied Status" for as long as you need.
