Good morning all,

Does anyone know when the Background & Security Check start?

I understood that there are two levels to this;

1. The criminal background check, based on police certificates
2. Security Clearance. (Where they check your name with known creepy organisations and such)

My file went "In Process" on January 3rd

Then on Jan 19th, i got a request to pay the landing fee.

On Jan 20th, i got a request to re-do my expired medical.

Both payment and medical results were received on March 15th.

My MP called on April 2nd for an update and they said the Antecedent Research wasn't completed yet and to try again in THREE MONTHS!

My current (third) working visa expires in two weeks. I can probably ride the Implied Status train for a few weeks, but i would hate to lose my job 2 months before i can start my Canadian life for good.

Any info would be appreciated.

I hope you hear back soon.

Our background checks are done, but we're waiting for the medical extension from London. It's been 2 months already!

I don't think anyone can give you details about the background checks, but I've heard you can apply for the ATIP to the relavent agencies on your own.
For example:
http://www.csis-scrs.gc.ca/tp/tp-eng.asp

Look around, maybe someone has more specific info on exactly who you need to contact. It sucks to be told to wait three months. We've also been told the medical office has 3 months to process the cases, so we are still within the timeline. Not if they ask us though! ;)

Heya McDutch,

Fellow Vienna VO applicant here, and following your case has me stressed because my wife has been working/living in Canada the last two years on one-year open work permits. (I am the sponsor , she is from Slovakia, visa exempt country), and I hope we don't follow you down this path.

Weird thing is I am sure there are other people from the Vienna thread that were living in Canada on work permits before / during getting sponsored. OttawaGirl of the top of my head was one for sure, and I think there where others from the Vienna thread, and none of them seemed to have this problem.

Maybe your file got put in the wrong stack or something at the RCMP. I would ask your MP to find out which agency the Vienna VO is waiting for and have your MP contact them directly to see what the hold up is. Not sure this is possible but worth a shot I suppose.

What is implied status?

Hey River,

It's hard to tell why one case goes faster than the next, so we'll see.

Implied Status is where you apply for an extension of your work visa and you get to keep working until they either extend or deny your visa.

Since it is very hard to get an LMO for my job (HRSDC has no idea what kind of classification they have to give it) it's hard to get an extension, but until they deny it, i get to keep working.
