Yes my friend, what happened was a very tragic situation. the only option you have right now is try EE. The cutoff has been reduced in the last draw, so if you manage to score about 400 points don't lose hope. Good luck to you and to everyone else who got their applications returned.

I would write work if you have been working before your status expired. if you're applying online, there's a part where they allow you to describe what happened for you to be out of status. so in that section you can mention that you intend to continue work once your'e granted your status back.
