I dont think they are going to ask you for the original, nor they have asked you to notarise it. Just send a copy of it. the only original documents I have sent till now are PCC, Bank Letter and IELTS. I am not aware of a 3rd requirement that says, send original

If you have a birth certificate; just send it. If you dont, then you will need to attach all kinds of documents proving the relationship. I went through a similar situation and because I didnt have a birth certificate, I had to submit so many other documents to prove the relationship.

Since you have a letter statiting you are fluent in English; I suggest just take the IELTS. If you are fluent in English, then getting the 7 or 8 band shouldnt be a problem at all. just do it and play safe.
