    First time homebuyer - definition

Thank you, Investocrat. Looking at the form now I understand that I should be eligible. Hi Sapguru, yes, CRA does have the information since I declared that property on my income tax every single year. I don't qualify for first time home buyer credit and that's ok. Whether they'll find out or...

    First time homebuyer - definition

Thank you kindly for the very speedy reply, scylla. That was a helpful link and I understand I am not eligible for a discount on the land transfer tax. That's fine. When it comes to borrowing from the RRSP (and repaying within 15 years), I understand that there is a different definition of...

    First time homebuyer - definition

Hello, I sold my place overseas and am now looking to buy in Toronto. As a first time homebuyer, I believe that I get a little discount on the land transfer tax as well as that I can borrow up to 25k from my RRSP to use as part of my downpayment. I am aware that the latter only works if I pay...

Bringing in property sale proceeds from abroad

I’m also in a similar situation. Looking at buying a house here and borrowing from my RRSP will not cut it in terms of required down payment. I own a condo in my home country which I am selling. I won’t have to pay CGT in my home country as I’ve owned it for 10+ years so they consider it...

PR card renewal - earliest time I can apply

Thank you for the quick reply! That is great news. I assume I will still be able to travel with the old one while that process is on its way? My parents are going to be nearing 80 at that point and being grounded for any amount of time just makes me very very nervous....

PR card renewal - earliest time I can apply

Hi! My PR card will expire in June 2019. I know this is still a long time to go until then but I am starting to worry about travel while in the renewal process. Under the old rules, I would have already been able for citizenship (been here for 7 years), but since days on work permits before...

    PR: Landing & pre-settlement in 2-3 days?

Yes, depending on what time of the day you land, you can get your SIN right away at Pearson airport. When I landed, it was after midnight, so they were closed. I obtained my SIN from Service Canada. A good location to go to is at City Hall. As somebody else mentioned, the sooner you can apply...

PR card not working properly - kiosk machines at Pearson do not read it

I've searched for this topic on the CIC side but all I found was information on cases where the card was issued with incorrect spelling or things like that and the forms how you would apply for a new card. The process is quite comprehensive regarding documents you have to complete, photos, and I...

Does correction of vision become a problem in medicals

Not to worry. I realized I needed glasses (at least for driving) a couple of years ago. I realized that I was able to read signs a lot later than everybody else around me. While my prescription is minimal, I brought my glasses to the medical and the doctor just took note of this. It did not...

Got my CPR but will leave the country before getting my PR Card....

Lots of threads on this but why don't you do the following: Don't land just jet, take your papers with you when you go on your trip and land when you get back from Germany. What difference do the 5 weeks make at this point?

    Some help please

I actually dealt with three different law firms over the course of the application. My employer kept changing who they worked with, so my file was passed on a few times. All three were fine IMHO and in the end, led to a successful application. I'll PM you the names.

    Some help please

Well, it's the NOC code I applied under and no, I do not manage people (and have not ever, since working in Canada). The lawyer had me prepare and sign an extensive letter with declaration of job duties (one page), and nowhere does it say that this includes people management.

CEC PR Rejected - need advise pls

Hi Winterfox, I think the above link is very helpful. Am also with one of the banks here (neither one that you mentioned) and my initial work permit was for 2 years. The second work permit they requested for 3 years (which brings it to 5). The lawyer advised me at the time that after the...

    Some help please

Have you looked at 0122? It doesn't explicitly state pensions but I think that a lot of the tasks are similar. You don't have to manage people to be a manager. On a separate note, whether you find it fair or not is not going to matter and not going to help your case.

FYI: Travel w/o PR card ( ONLY for citizens from visa exempt countries )

Yes thanks. I wonder why they always give me sh** at the check-in. Must have to do with the way I book my flights I guess (starting in Frankfurt).

FYI: Travel w/o PR card ( ONLY for citizens from visa exempt countries )

Hi Toby, Thank you for sharing your experience - I am sure this can help others who are still waiting for the card and have mandatory travel. I've only done domestic travel since landing and got my PR card a while ago so I don't expect to run into problems when I go home in August. Glad to...

Experience Class Program vs extension of temporary residence

I would definitely go for it. Gives you more options and makes mid and long term planning feasible. Ask your employer if they'd be willing to pay or at least assist with your PR fees. Doesn't hurt to ask. I did just in case and was lucky that they did. A good argument is that they'll save the...

Can I apply to the CEC after the International Experience Canada???

They do not care about the TOEFL. You will need to do either IELTS (general, not the academic version) or the CELPIP. Suggest you have a close look at Toby's website which has all the links that you need. Good luck!

Can I still go to Canada but not landing with my Immigrant Visa

Of course. I often book my flights starting in Frankfurt or Munich rather than starting in Toronto. So I usually leave either city in February or March and will have the return from Toronto booked for December, just before Christmas. I will go back during the year but those are shorter trips...

Can I still go to Canada but not landing with my Immigrant Visa

Hi, Yes you can. I can answer this question for someone in my situation. I do not know if the same applies to your particular situation. (Myself: visa-exempt and on a work permit that is valid until the end of 2014). I received my COPR mid January. I could have landed right away with my next...
