Hi everybody!!!!

I applied for PR under the CEC in late November 2013 and finally got my CPR!
I will go to to the Point Roberts Point of Entry in Tsawwassen tomorrow to get my documents signed.
If I understood everything right CIC will then send me my initial PR Card, right?
The processing time for a PR Card is 36 days right now.... I will leave Canada and go to Germany from September 16 to October 1.
So I probably won't get my PR Card before leaving Canada.

I couldn't really find an answer on what to do then...
Do I need another document to re-enter Canada?
Is my status as a PR invalid without the PR card?

Any hints and tips are really appreciated.

Thanks a lot and cheers,
Chris

Thanks a lot astasi.

This really sucks for me but I think the best choice would be...

Scenario #2:
You haven't completed the landing yet, your CoPR is still valid, but you want to travel soon
If you CoPR is valid long enough, you may travel before completing the landing and complete the landing process when you come back from your trip

I have an offer to go fishing but for that I'd need an industrial fishing license, which you just get if you are a PR. Too bad that won't work out.....

Thanks again ;-)

Lots of threads on this but why don't you do the following: Don't land just jet, take your papers with you when you go on your trip and land when you get back from Germany. What difference do the 5 weeks make at this point?

That's exactly what I'll do now.
The reason for going to a port of entry tomorrow and get it all done was just to get the industrial fishing license, which requires to be a PR.
It's all about earning some extra money... ;)

Hi

Do your landing tomorrow. As a visa-exempt German citizen, you can return to Canada on the strength of your passport alone, as if you were simply a visitor. Do not mention your PR status to the airline when checking in, as they may ask for your PR card and refuse to board you without it. When you enter Canada, you can present yourself as a PR to immigration without any issue.

You are a PR once you've landed, regardless of whether you have the PR card or not. You are NOT required to have a PR card to enter Canada.

How sure are you about that? That's what's stated in the other link:
Travel outside Canada/US: You will not be able to re-enter Canada using the CoPR. To re-enter Canada at an airport after completing the landing, without your PR card, you will have to apply for a travel document while you're outside Canada

I also have my temporary resident visa valid until November, so I could do the landing tmrw and then just came back in October using my temporary resident visa.... Possible???

100% sure. There are many, many others who have done just that.

Understand that the PR card is NOT required by CBSA when you enter; they can see all of your details from just your passport. The PR card is required by the commercial carrier (airline, ferry, cruise etc.) as proof that a person has the right to enter Canada without a visa. If the carrier transports someone without the right to enter Canada, they can be fined and must pay all return flight costs for the person. For those who are visa-exempt, their passport is all that they need to enter Canada, so the carrier doesn't need to see anything beyond it.

Thanks a lot for all that, sounds all good to me!
Will do the landing the next days (got a sprained ankle and can't walk... Note: never try to outrun a dog on a steep trail full of rocks and roots) and will ask the officers there as well.
Thanks again

And when I come back to Canada, do I take the line for visitors and visa holders or the line for citizens and PRs???

You are a PR, regardless of whether you have the card or not. You will go to the citizen/PR line.
