yup, asking is okay but vfs doesn't know about how embassy works. they just submit the application on your behalf. if you really wanna ask then do case specific inquiry with CIC. i doubt vfs will be helpful, but you can try if u want to.

no this is the worst possible way to delay your application. just wait for your visa, if they reject then you will need to apply again. you cannot update because you applied paper-based at VAC and now anything you do will cause more confusion. just wait.

these emails are from VFS. if it is approval, then you will receive email from embassy. if it's a reject then embassy will not send any email. just wait and be positive.

go to notary with photocopies and originals, ask notary to certify these as true copies by stamping, as simple as that.
