Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Yes, but they are responsible for their own healthcare cost. Don't think provincial healthcare covers visitor.
But visitors go to our public hospital for emergencies don't they (even they are responsible for their health care)?

Despite birth tourist pay for their own medical cost, many people were against birth tourism!

Here’s a thought, what do you guys think? What about parents that are already here on supervisa. The govt should pass a temporary policy to allow them to apply to transition to permanent status as they are already here. Tests, medicals, biometrics have already been done as per supervisa process.

please share your thoughts!

I think it might improve those people’s chances because all the people with supervisas wouldn’t be competing with them to get into the interest to sponsor que. if parents are already in Canada with covid going on and everything it might be more feasible from a humanitarian and logistical perspective to transition them to permanent status. This would open up more capacity for the govt to focus on applicants that aren’t already in Canada.

To add on to my previous point. The key difference would be that this would be a temporary step in light of covid to ease pressure on the upcoming pgp process.

And what do you think the voters in this country would think if the Government suddenly started a influx of seniors into the country during a pandemic , when it’s been shown that the provinces can’t adequately take care of senior citizens already here ? Or that the waitlist to see specialists for some issues is now YEARS ?
People here seem to forget , economic immigration is one thing , a program that allows seniors into the country , is totally different. Adding, most Canadians aren’t even aware there is such a program
And once again, could someone please post a link where the PGP program is in legislation or guaranteed to be held each year?
The reason it’s never been posted , because it’s not

Plenty of birth tourist don’t actually cover their healthcare costs especially if their child ends up in the NICU. There are bills for hundreds of thousand dollars that go unpaid. There are also smaller bills that also don’t get paid. People arrive at the hospital in labour and the hospital can’t turn them away or ask for a deposit or prepayment.

If all parents who were in Canada could convert their status to PR there woulda very large number of parents that would get PR. There is a fixed amount of applications because the majority of applicants cost the government money without paying taxes. Covid is temporary so covid would not be a reason for an H&C application especially when parents can request an extension to remain in Canada longer under their supervisa.

There is a lot of competition for covid spots because Canada can’t afford to allow every immigrant to sponsor their parents. The supervisa was a compromise that allows parents to visit for a longer period of ti e while requiring health insurance. Immigration policies are in place to counteract Canada’s ageing population. If a family can sponsor 4 parents it will just add to Canada’s ageing population.

Two separate issues altogether. This suggestion is to ease congestion on the pgp program not about public perception or the state of the healthcare system.

Pgp isn’t going anywhere the reality is it continues to exist and in light of covid perhaps we can brainstorm to find efficiencies. Supervisa applicants have already been through medical testing, security clearances, and most of the process required for permanent residency. It doesn’t logistically make sense to have them re-do most of the same procedures again and then clog up the interest to sponsor spots especially since resources are the immigration dept are already stretched thin due to covid. This will help save taxpayer money and resources. Once again I cannot stress this enough. This is only suggested as a temporary measure to ease resources due to covid.

If anything seniors need to an up to date medical because their health may have changed after 1 year. What you are suggesting will give a large amount of parents or grandparents PR in addition to a PGP program when it restarts. There is a cap on PGP application for a reason so increasing the number of parents and grandparents approved doesn’t make sense. Extending a supervisa is an option for those wanting to try and remain in Canada longer.
