As a matter of fact, we have only 3 months left for year 2020 and CIC usually don’t work in December as it works in normal months.

Hopes are down to see anything coming through this year!

Nothing this year. Next year might be a write off too.

We need someone to start the protest and lead us just like spousal immigration protests were held recently.

Canadians call for faster family reunificationProtests held across Canada call for a solution to delays in spousal and family sponsorship, a problem that predates the pandemic.

Result of the protest

Canada to speed up spousal sponsorship application processingCanada aims to process 6,000 spousal sponsorship applications per month between October and December 2020.

People who raised their voice and filed lawsuit in the last PGP process were secretly given an offer to apply for their parents or grandparents.

We need to raise our voice to get heard.

we are given an excuse that Covid is life threatening for seniors and hence PGP has to be delayed.

given the above excuse I don’t think PGP will open next year. It’s going to be years wait now. To save themselves from every year criticism, they are giving COVID excuse.

The majority of Canadians have no idea people can sponsor parents and grandparents. Would imagine your petition or attempt to get media attention will have the opposite impact of the push for spousal sponsorship to be prioritized. Most Canadians will question how we are allowing more seniors to enter Canada when we couldn’t care for the current seniors during covid most of whom had worked and paid taxes for decades. Would add that many seniors are waiting years for longterm care, for surgery, etc. and don’t have a family doctor. Millions of Canadians also don’t have a family doctor. Would imagine there will be an outcry if many find out that a parent who has never worked in Canada would be able to arrive and have full access to the healthcare system.

Sponsoring a parent is never guaranteed. The program is renewed annually. The program is very far down the priority list after covid, the economy etc. especially because the majority of parents never work or pay taxes so the program is an economic drain. When talking about covid being life threatening for seniors Canadians will consider the current seniors who have PR or citizenship not those who are citizens of other countries. The pandemic has highlighted that the existing care for seniors is not adequate and that a lot more money is needed to care for them. Adding more seniors will not be a priority for most in Canada.

“we are given an excuse that Covid is life threatening for seniors and hence PGP has to be delayed.”

Excuse ? Tell that too all the families who lost a family member to Covid
This entitlement some individuals have where they feel it’s there right to sponsor parents is borderline hilarious
Healthcare system is a dumpster fire , nursing homes are a mess , wait is now years for some elective surgeries. It would be reckless for the Government too bring in older people at this time, and they know it . If they reopened that PGP program at this time , the media & the opposition would be on them like rabid dogs , as they should be

But they let older people to come to Canada as visitors (if they are certain relatives of Canadian citizen or PR).

If PGP is opened today, parents and grandparents won’t come next day as the process itself takes years to complete.

before you tell me seniors are loosing their life due to COVID, do some research about seniors locked in their houses without food and money for weeks before the help reach them. There are still some cities with restrictions and in partial lockdown. One person who is not even the family member is doing funeral of people dying because family members can’t reach and see their dead member for the last time.

People on this forum who look to target me need to have someone in such countries before targeting me.

Have some common sense that parents won’t come next day if Pgp is opened today.

we need a leader to lead us.

There is much debate on this thread about people who think parents are burden and don’t pay taxes and ruin the health care, should be on the federal skilled worker thread instead of being on PGP thread. I hope this thread was created for parents and grandparents and not to target them. If you don’t love your parents and grandparents it doesn’t mean that other also hate seniors like you. We love our family members and like you we can’t leave them alone.

Yes, but they are responsible for their own healthcare cost. Don't think provincial healthcare covers visitor.

But you have to understand that parents and grandparents are not considered as immediate family memebers in terms of immigration. You likely have seen that in the application forms when you fill-in your own immigration/sponsorship applications.

So, they will not have the same piority as spouses and dependents (children). I do think that PGP will eventually open up. But the government has a lot to deal with right now (pandemic, economy, drug overdose) . And I don't see opening up PGP is on the top of their list.

You were talking about starting petitions and protests to open PGP as soon as possible. Give our ageing population, the amount of debt and financially uncertaintly and the difficulty we are already having taking care of the current seniors you will not get the support from most Canadians to bring in more seniors esepcially during a pandemic. Millions of Canadians have no idea that parent sponsorship exists. If you haven't had a family doctor for years or decades and the wait list for a surgery or appointment is 6-12+ months there is not going to much support for parents to come to Canada and get PR right away and have access to all the same services.
