Visitor Visa Extension for Spousal Sponsership

Hey all, I'm new here and figured this was the best place to get some advice :)

I'm Australian, currently in Canada on a visitors visa which expires May 23rd. My husband (Canadian Citizen) and I are wanting to apply for PR under spousal sponsership.

We're awaiting on a few documents such as our marriage certificate and also awaiting on a family member to help us with legal and government fees as we intend to go with a lawyer and all of that probably won't happen before May 23rd

I'm a little worried because I know that I'm supposed to apply for the visa extension a month beforehand.

The lawyer suggested that I try applying for it on my own I have all the forms in front of me but it's a little bewildering.

Like for financial proof my husband is the one who is supporting me, so would he write a letter to state that and also submit statements of our joint Canadian bank account?

And for the purpose of why I'm extending my visitors visa should I say "To apply for permanent residency via Spousal Sponsership or should it just be something like "Wanting to spend more time with my husband."

One of the people we spoke to advised against mentioning PR in the extension for some reason but my original reason for entry when I arrived was to visit my fiance (at the time) and his family.

I hope you guys can help make this clearer for me it's quite stressful! Aha!

Hi

Unless you have massive red flags that you haven't mentioned, skip the lawyer and save the money. The process is very straightforward. The guide and checklist are pretty thorough and this forum can answer any question you have.

Apply online for the visitor extension yourself. Just follow the steps.

Yes, a letter and the bank statements are fine.

State that you are applying for spousal sponsorship; it is a good idea to pay the PR fees and include that receipt.

Ignore that person. It is 100% advised to state that you are applying for sponsorship.

Would be best if you had sent in your sponsorship documents and proof that you have paid the associated fees before filing for the extension. If that is not possible you could pay for the sponsorship and include the receipt and explain you will submit the application before a certain date like the end up April or May.

Thank you very much for your reply! It's made things less stressful.

Unfortunately, my Husband and I are also counting on our family member to pay for at least the PR fees can I still submit my visa extension without them and then once I apply for PR pay them then?

Also it asks for how long I want to stay, should I just put 3 or 6 months? I think that if it's more than 6 months I'd need a medical but I know I'd already that in the PR application.

Lastly, with the letter of financial support from my husband is there any specific format? Like can it be digital or physical?

Apologies for all the questions!

If you pay for the PR fees later, they won't be used as evidence in any way in the evaluation of your visa application, so they won't make a difference. The suggestion to pay them now is a suggestion to provide proof that you are actually intending to apply for PR and have put up money for it.

If you are applying for a visa extension online, you must submit it digitally. If you are applying on paper, you must provide it with the application form.

Thank you for your reply! That makes sense. My husband has already typed out a letter of financial support and added his signature, I assume that's fine. Also do you know what I should do regarding the employment section? It wants 10 years of employment but it has only has 3 spaces! I've listed the extra employment details in the explanation letter, is that enough?

Its early to be applying for the extension anyways. Wait until closer to expiry after you've paid the fees.

Ask for 6 months. You wont have to do a medical for the extension unless you were living in a risk country before Canada.

No specific format. He should actually sign it.
