Hi

I'm ready to mail off my application for a 6 month extension. I have been in Canada since May, and my visa expires in October. I'm a British citizen, and have given the reason of (which is completely true), me getting engaged to my boyfriend in september, and me wanting to stay here for a further 6 months to pass the 1 year mark for which I can then apply for common law sponsership. I've been living with him since I arrived, and I've got all the documents they need for proof such as; return ticket, his bank statements to prove he supports me and will support me til I leave. Also, I've given the reason of me wanting to find work out here which I'm already doing.

So given I send it off, what are my chances of getting an extension?

Also, his bank statements were printed off at the bank, would that be okay? As long as it has his name on it and his account number.

Thanks for your time. =)

I guess nobody wants to reply :(

hello,
your chances are 50 - 50. nobody can predict what they can decide. let's wait and see.
good luck

Just to let you guys know...I got the extension for 6 months. So happy :D

thank you for the update! great news! congratulations! :)

I was just wondering if you could give me some tips on preparing this application as I am in almost the exact same situation!

I had the same situation, but I just sent the application for another 6 months without explaining really why. I said that I want to see more and travel a bit and spend some money...which was true. You just need to show them (proof) that you have money and that you will be able financially stay for another 6 months.
I haven't heard from anybody that immigration would make a problem with extending first time your old visa. With a second time might be a problem.

Good luck

if they are not satisfied with the reasons you provide they can refuse extension 1st time too. so the more good reasons you have the better and chances for getting approved are quite high.

good luck!

Hi Poetic,

We are a couple that might be in a similar situation as yours few months back.
Regarding your post, if you could answer few questions, that would be much appreciated.

Can you tell us what was the status of your boyfriend in Canada (Citizen or Permanent Resident)?
How did you prove them that you are engaged?
Did you wait long to get the extention approval?
Your visa Visa was supposed to expire in October and you reply on the forum that you got it in January. Did you stay few month not having a legal status or did you get it approved in time?
What did you tell them the first time you crossed the border and started your 6 months tourist visa? Vacation,...

Best of luck for the sponsorship.

Regards,

Julien & Judit

Hi...sure I can help ya out.

My boyfriend was/is a Canadian Citizen.
I did not prove that I was engaged.
I waited 3 months, which I guess is normal.
I mailed the application in September, so while I waited I had Implied Status, which basically means you're just waiting for the approval.
I told her I was visiting my boyfriend, she then just asked me where I met him, I told her then she let me through.

Thanks andHope that helps. (sorry for the delayed reply)

Thanks for the answer Poetic.
