Hello,

I received this a letter from Abu Dhabi embassy end of April 2014 to inform me that my visa is ready to be issued, one of the requirement was to cancel my spouse visa (UAE residence), we have 60 days to submit the documents, and the visa will be valid until 15th of Sep’14, now the situation is the followng:

1- we already booked a return flight tickets for 2 weeks to Canada for holiday before getting that email, we are traveling after 2 weeks from now, so we have only 25 days to submit the documents when we returned back.

2- My wife is pregnant (my sponsor) and she already started her 7th month, her health insurance has been cancelled in Canada after moving to UAE before 2 years, and if she activate it during our holiday, it will take 3 months to be issued, and of course she has health insurance in UAE, but we will lose it in case we cancelled her UAE residence.

3- After coming back from Canada, her doctor is not allowing her to travel, since the delivery is expected to be on 1st on August, that why it’s very difficult to cancel her UAE residence before that.
We have checked the website and it was mentioned that if we didn’t submit document within 60 days, may we need to submit the whole applications again.

I don't think you have many choices other than to ask the Visa Office to provide an extension to provide the visa cancellation until after the baby is born due to no health coverage in Canada, or change your flights and arrive in Canada permanently in 2 weeks and pay out of pocket for the child delivery in Canada.


If you do not get an extension, and you don't submit the documents asked for, yes they can cancel your PR, and you would need to start over. And chances are they will not allow your wife to be out of country on the 2nd application for lack of compliance with the previous request.

My question was do they accept to extend the visa? If not what are the choices we have?
it's difficult to cancel UAE visa before our holiday in Canada after 2 weeks, since she works here and usually they ask for one month notice period....

I'm confused about how you can 'cancel' your Canadian Health Insurance. Doesn't she have a provincial health card for whatever province she lived in? It doesn't cost anything in Canada to have a baby, everything is covered for free under your provincial health insurance. I went to Costa Rica for 8 months and came back and had a doctors appointment like 3 days later and it wasn't a problem. I know you can cancel any extra insurance you have like blue cross or gms or whatever but i've never heard of anyone cancelling their free provincial health coverage.

How would they know? Like I just said I was gone for 8 months, roughly 250 days, and I went to the doctor 3 days after returning without issue.

Exactly, the problem comes when you declare yourself a non-resident on your tax forms..

There is no problem until someone investigates and finds the problem

yes, my wife already declared that she is non-resident ... that's why she doesn't have insurance coverage now in Canada.

If you are outside Canada for more that 153-183 days depending on the Province, your Health Insurance is no longer valid.

And in most provinces apart from BC and AB I believe, there is a three month waiting period when you reapply. So if OP's wife is due in August she won't get coverage in time for the birth of the baby.

Exactly, that's why she can't cancel her UAE residence now .... And our due date to submit the documents is 25th of June.... And in case they didn't accept to extend the date ... Most probably I'll lose the visa

Can't you explain to them that she can't cancel her visa for this reason? Then they can still issue you your landing visa. Because she will likely have the baby in August. You will be able to travel to canada by mid September still, so I think there's no need to try to extend your visa. Only explain why she cannot cancel her UAE visa until August sometime.

Sorry just to be clear, your wife is a PR or a Canadian Citizen and is sponsoring you, correct? When you come to Canada for 2 weeks holiday you will be staying with friends? perhaps "family"?

Any chance she could activate her Health Insurance and then remain in Canada for the short time left on your application? I know, I know, I wouldn't have traded being present for our baby girl's birth for anything in the world. Any chance your visa will be issued "prior" to the due date IF she does remain in Canada??

My wife is Canadian citizenship and she is sponsoring me, we will stay with her family there. And she is planning to activate her health insurance during our holiday but still the time is not enought to get it before baby delivery which is expected on 1st of Aug.
The only solution I have is trying to explain for them the situation, so we can postpone the documents submition for more than 60 days, but still I'm not sure if we can travel before 15th of Sep, we need to check with the doctor at that date to know if we can or not.

May we know what province you will settle in? And I know it's not a guaranteed solution but would you consider using a midwife for the delivery? In some provinces their services are free. The only drawback is, if there's complications and you end up in a hospital then you're back to mat ward/delivery fees. I did limited research on this for ourselves but thankfully we were eligible for OHIP in time, as our delivery ended up being a C-section.
