Hi guys!

Just noticed my visitor visa is valid til 2018 but my passport is only til 2017. Do i have to request for visa transfer or could i simply just bring both passports when travelling to canada?

The visa is good until the passport expires. You will need to apply for a new visa with the new passport (remember to send a copy of the old passport and visa with the application). You can not use an old passport with a visa in it to gain entry.

He can carry both passport. I guess this would be same as US visitors visa. My expired passport with US Visa stamped is still good whenever I go to US, I carry it together with my current passport and no problem at all.

Hope it helps :)

Thank you for the inputs guys.

I saw this from ENF 4 Port of entry examinations. Was wondering if this is the correct reference for it.

13.18 Valid visas in expired passports

Visa officers will not put a visa in an expired document and will not issue a visa for a period surpassing the expiry date of the passport or travel document. Occasionally, documents containing valid visas are cancelled or replaced. If a valid visa inside an expired document is presented at the POE along with a valid passport or travel document, the visa is considered valid.

Hi buleg, i think that is the case with US visa but hopefully canada is the same. I remember CIC always mention in their request for passport letters that they cannot issue visas beyond passport life.

Would just like to ask if anyone has had a scenario like mine. Thanks

Depending on the assessment made by the visa officer.... internal CIC guidelines allow multiple-entry TRVs to be issued maximum up to one month less than the passport expiry date.... but often it could be just one day short of the passport expiry date.

Canada's TRVs are not valid beyond the expiry date of the passports. This is unlike the US B1/B2 visas.

As you will apply for a new passport only in December 2016, you can send a CSE regarding the TRV validity until 2018.... and request the visa office to advise
