Valid re entry visa on an old passport..help anyone,pls?

Hi all,

Im in canada right now under work permit and im planning to go back to the philippines for a visit this march... i have applied for a re entry visa in buffalo,NY na. When i get back to the philippines...im going to renew my passport dahil mag eexpire na this Sept. Tanong ko lang... what happens to the visa in the old passport.... can i still use it pgbalik ko dito sa canada or do i need to apply a new one?

thats kinda confusing biancreb...ur passport is expiring and then u applied for trv to buffalo..i would suggest u to renew your passport first in the philippines and then apply for ur re entry visa in the philippines..all u need is the updated passport once ur done,ur work permit,lmo and contract and then send it through air21 and that only takes 3-5 bus days...

indeed, i could renew my passport in the phil and apply re entry..but it'l take time( i live in the province)... im only visiting the country for 3 weeks... ang reason ko lang nman why il renew kasi sayang ung opportunity na nasa manila na ako as oppose to comming back to canada and have it renewed here na kelangan ko pa pumunta ng toronto for appearance( im from Manitoba).

Im asking if any one was able to use the visa on his old passport together with the new one? pwede ba un?

hello all. i got an answer to my question from the "port of in entry examination manual" it says:

Valid visas in expired passports
If an expired passport contains a valid visa counterfoil, the counterfoil can still be used since the expiration of the passport has no effect on the visa's validity. Holders of a valid visa may continue to use their visa until the date it expires even if the visa is in an expired passport. Visitors can fulfil the visa and passport requirements by presenting both the renewed and expired passports containing the valid visa counterfoil to a BSO when seeking entry into Canada. The Regulations state that visas should not be issued longer than the validity of the passport. However, due to pre- IRPA cases, it is possible to encounter visas in expired passports.
It is not possible to "transfer" a valid visa into a new passport. If the holder of a valid visa wishes to have a visa placed in their new passport or if the passport is deemed ‘not valid' for political or security concerns, visitors must apply for a replacement visa by submitting a new application and paying the replacement document fee in accordance with R311(2).
If the applicant wishes to obtain a visa valid for a longer period in the new document, this will constitute a new temporary resident visa application and any applicable fees resulting from this new application will be collected. The previous visa will subsequently be cancelled.
