Hubby talked to CIC Dr's office, again yesterday and they have not heard one word from CIC and there is still nothing in the Emedical file...Best part is the Dr's office is now including my hubby in their emails to CIC...I am thinking this is good to have in case CIC tries to say we did not respond in time...I wonder what punishment the CIC employee gets for not responding?..lol

My COPR has arrived! We are now planning a quick trip across the border within the next week or so and I can finally relax and enjoy being in Canada with all the perks of living here. Once our outland application was sent in it too a total of 10 months and 12 days to get COPR but it is done.

I do still have a question on bringing my things from the US. I packed everything I had over 2 years ago now and have had things stored at my kids house. I did not label boxes nor write a list of what was in them Can I just list the boxes in general as Kitchen items, pots/pans/dishes and linens and miscellaneous for things like, paperwork, photos and decorations? Or do I have to find time to go through those boxes and list things. I have only about 10 boxes of various sizes but none bigger than a large tote.

Hello, I have a question before I get married and even begin the sponsorship process. I plan to go the United States to get married to my American fiancee this December. I'm just going to be there for a week for the legal ceremony, and then I'll be going back to Canada. Would there be any reason for me to use anything other than the regular travel Visa issued to Canadians? I heard that Canadians who marry Americans and intend to live in the United States need to get Fiance visas, but we're going to be living in Canada, so is that a non-issue for me?

I figured I'd ask in this thread since people who married Americans or are Americans hang out here, and we're going to be doing a US outland application. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help us!

Yep, should be a non-issue. That's almost exactly what we did and I had no issues crossing the border, either on the wedding weekend and on subsequent trips to the US. You don't need anything special in terms of a visa.

Congrats!

As for your list of goods, you can use general categories, like "box of clothes" or "box of kitchen items" or "box of tools". Larger items or expensive ones you should list separately like " 46-in LCD TV" or "MacBook Pro". Don't stress too much over this, CBSA doesn't seem to be too picky about the B4 form and appreciates if you try putting together a list at all.

Canadians don't need visas to visit the US. Getting married there is fine, you can stay up to 6 months.

Keesio, thanks. I do not have anything larger worth money I sold it all before I came here or just gave it away it was easier knowing I would be moving into a Motor Home for at least a while. We still live in it and likely will for at least another year. Not overly fun as it is not a big one but we have been able to be together the whole time so I cannot complain.

Thanks for the replies! Did you tell the customs officer that you were going to the US to get married? One time, I told them I was going to the US to visit my girlfriend and they held me up for questioning, but they pass me through without issue when I just say I'm going there to visit friends and family.

My hubby and I got married Feb of this year. In his prior visits he had never had an issue at the border saying he was visiting his girlfriend, but on this last visit, (first visit to see me since we got married) he said he was visiting his wife and helping me move. I moved to Ontario from BC. At the border they THOUROUGHLY inspected his car, luggage, etc. They called his work to verify he was going back. (He had only taken a few weeks off of work). They basically interrogated him, and passed him on to three different people. The last lady almost denied him entry because I was not with him, and he had no copy of our open application OR proof of marriage. Ugh. So she finally let him through after she looked up MY name and saw I was approved for sponsorship. She was really rude to him, and he's never had an issue overstaying at all. He only sees me twice a year for a couple of weeks at a time.. Has anyone else experienced this?

Honestly, no, because that time we crossed by bicycle, and bicycled down the pacific coast to where his family lives, then rented a car and got married after some months staying there. I don't believe in lying, but I don't think omitting information unless they specifically ask is a bad thing. I am not gonna spend 20 minutes telling our life story. When I go down there I state my main purpose.

Every time I've crossed (aside from picking up packages which only takes about an hour) I've been with my spouse, so never got the shakedown issue. The worst thing that ever happened for me going into the states was when the border guard looked like he was 17 so it made me want to start laughing and I got flustered. I said I was going to pick up "packages" which isn't the best terminology to use apparently (was picking up amazon stuff from a package receiver).

I think Adamepp7 was talking about going into the US to get married, not coming into Canada. My spouse has been with me every time we've dealt with Canadian border services though, but they still managed to make me cry once. It can happen if you say or do the wrong thing. I've read stories like yours on here, maybe the wrong word was "move". He should have said "visit". You definitely want to have your ducks in a row when crossing the border, just in case.

I have NEXUS, so it is rare for me to be asked much of anything. On my way to the US on my wedding weekend, the guard happened to ask me why I was going to Vegas. I told him I was going down to get married. He just wished me luck and waved me through.

I never volunteer extra information, but will answer every question with total honesty.

My immigration officer was picky about me using the B-4 form when I landed, but really, he was picky about everything :/ but what was on it didn't really matter, they are really after the value of the items, so make sure anything of high value is listed specifically. Everything else can be generic. "Clothes, shoes, books" was one line on mine, "electronics tools and cabling" was another.

This. The only thing is, make sure you declare things you are required to, preferably before they ask, and ESPECIALLY if you have NEXUS. They are more likely to be flexible if you are forthcoming about things they usually have to pry out of people.

He did say he was visiting for 3 weeks, but also stated that he was helping me move as I was flying in from BC. I think it was because he didn't have any proof of our marriage or our process on him. They told him to come back with me there so he wouldn't have to face that every time he visited.
