List of items bring back to Canada - how detailed???

That was my understanding as well -- you get one chance to inventory your goods, whether they are with you or to follow and if you don't do it when landing your items will be subject to duty when you try and ship them later.

List of items bring back to Canada - how detailed???

Our list was pretty basic; we did it all in Excel. As we were packing my wife's apartment, we simply made a new line for every box we packed and listed the contents in a category and then made notes about the actual contents and its estimated value. Our headings on the spreadsheet were: Box...

Just came as regular Canada Post snail mail.

My wife's PR card arrived earlier this week, only about a month after our landing.

American citizen birth certificate for outland

Yes, include a photocopy of the birth certificate for the applicant. The wording is confusing, but that's because they're covering their bases for all sorts of relationships and situations. When in doubt, remove the extraneous wording and focus on what they want. CIC-speak: "Provide birth...

Proof of relationship - not enough

You'll be fine. I just dug up our application files to see how much we sent in. Almost all of our supplemental documents were related to IMM5490. Question 9: 18 pages Question 15: 6 pages Question 18: 6 pages Question 24: 26 pages Question 25: 20 pages Question 26: 37 pages Total: 113...

Canadian to sponsor American with conjugal sponsorship

I'll echo what others have said. A Canada/US conjugal partner application has almost zero chance of succeeding and if the only barrier to you being married are "personal reasons" I would drop the odds down to zero. I speak from experience, as our first application was a conjugal partner...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

I've kind of forgotten how compulsively I was checking ECAS during our application. First thing in the morning when I got to the office, once more before heading home at the end of the day, and usually once over my lunch hour too. The good news is that I'll never forget my wife's birthday...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

I have always been told that a US citizen should always file a tax return with the IRS even if they had no income to report, and to continue to do so even when living in a different country. On the Canadian side, you can file a form that basically asks the government whether or not you are...

    IMM 5409

No. Don't fill out any form that is not required. IMM5409 is only required if you have a co-signer which, as you stated, you do not. Cheers!

Need step by step website or should I just hire a lawyer?

Echoing what others have said. If you have a straightforward application then a lawyer is a waste of money. The guides and the checklists are the step-by-step instructions you seek and they are pretty clear. It's just a matter of paying attention to detail and following the instructions...

That only applies if you click on the checkbox next to "Remove website access to my application status and address information." and then click on the red button that says "Remove Access". Nothing to worry about.

For us, our original COPR was postmarked the same day (Dec. 3) as eCAS updated to Decision Made. It went to my wife's US address and then had to get forwarded to Canada and didn't arrive until January 6. By that time we had assumed it had been lost and contacted CPC-Ottawa and they sent a new...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Landing complete! We crossed back into Canada at Coutts, AB. We got to the window, handed the fellow our passports and told him we wanted to complete my wife's landing process. He directed us to park and come inside. We handed over the COPR, the fellow asked a few questions, made her initial...

So, guess what was in our mailbox yesterday? A second COPR -- well, actually, it was the first one. It seems this is what happened: November 2: Submitted online form to update address to our Canadian residence December 3: eCAS went to DM and COPR was sent to the old address in the States...

Alberta Health Care for my husband?

We were able to get Alberta Health using our marriage certificate and the passport stamp showing my wife arrived in Canada legally as a visitor. Alberta seems to be one of the easier provinces in that regard.

U.S. permanent resident visiting Canada while waiting for approval

My advice for crossing the border is always the same: "Always answer everything honestly but never give any more information than what is asked for." I think a lot will depend on how he arrives in Canada. Arriving by air? A return ticket is pretty much a requirement and should provide decent...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

I understand the feeling. When you're waiting it is very hard to feel happy for the people who are completing the process, especially when they applied weeks later than you did. Hang in there!
